I need to move away from my current unsupported theme. I’ll probably use one of the WordPress maintained sites, as that will give me less issues with php updates and such. However, I need reassurance that my site won’t be trashed if I switch.

I read the Using Themes page in the Codex, which seems to indicate that I can preview a theme before activating it. What if it has features that I don’t need or want? Can they be easily eliminated? ie…lots of themes have visual sliding bars, which I may or may not use.

I’m not at all good with CSS code. Hence my use of WordPress. Someone out there reassure me or guide me.

    Many thanks.

You won’t lose anything by switching themes. Some folks even do it monthly just for fun.

The worst that may happen is some widgets may be moved to the Inactive Widgets section (in which case, just drag them back to the desired widget area), and some menus may have their location unassigned (in which case, just re-assign their location).

    Hi, newbie63, addressing,

This will ultimately depend on the settings that the theme offers.

You can try using https://qsandbox.com/app/ with the free plan to test out certain themes before ultimately using them on your website.

Thanks. I’ll try both after I backup the site and feel adventurous!
