• This is my attempt to create a simple theme that has some AJAX goodness in it. It has an AJAX sidebar, and AJAX comments. I am still working on this every day adding/tweaking things, but I thought I would put up a download for it for others to mess with it. Here it is https://fauxzen.com/code/wordpress/newzen/ and its active right now on my blog. What do you guys think? Any ideas?

right now with javascript disabled it displays the top section and the rest are closed. You should have it so that with javascript disable they are all open.

Right now only one can be open at a time. You should make it so that they can all be open at once. makes navigation simpler.

    nice work, though

i bookmarked this at home, i know you’re in a current WP2 competition, good luck.

resiny, not a bad idea at all. I think that I will have to do some sort of java detection etc…

nicknormal, thanks… I jsut wish I had more time to tweak it as I feel that its not 100% complete… ohh well hope that the judges like it enough to give me the ipod video ??

I didn’t check out the theme (can’t right now), but I should really let you know that the chances are you don’t have an “AJAX sidebar”. If it is just nice Javascript effects that people nowadays associate with AJAX, it doesn’t actually make it AJAX. Your comments asynchrounously (mispelt, I know) call a script that posts the comment and then takes the returned XML and displays it formatted as a comment with some Javascript goodness. That’s AJAX.

Sorry to rant on like this, but this has been bugging me for a while.

More to the point – I like the way the screenshot looks simple – I’ll definately check it out. I prefer simpler themes that make customisation easy.

Well the only reason I say AJAX side bar is because it makes use of the MooFX Ajax package…. granted there is no http requests being processed and such….

I just released version 2.0 of the theme, check it out here https://fauxzen.com/2006/03/09/newzen-v20-build-104/

Should I continue this theme or just put it to rest?

    I like it ??

Well then I will try to get another update out soon then ??

I like NewZen and have made a color scheme in blue, now called “NewZen Blue” if I may. See it here at https://www.blog.fongstanley.com

There are also minor tweak on CSS for the sidebar but I couldn’t make it look the same on IE6 as I don’t know enough about CSS. Grateful for suggestions.

The sidebar is also completely unworkable on IE7 beta2.
