• Sorry if this is very basic but I am confused. A website designer built a site for me using WordPress and registered my domain for me. I now want to build my own site and deciding whether to use WordPress or something easier such as Wix. If I set up a new WordPress account, I see that I need to pay to use my own domain. If I use the WordPress account that is already used for my current website and domain, can I build a complete new wp site and then just replace the old one? Thanks.

  • It depends. You weren’t clear, but it sounds like the website designer built you a site on wordpress.com and just pointed a domain at it.

And it looks like you are considering something else that uses the same idea: Wix.

This support form, and this site www.ads-software.com, is about something different: buying web hosting from someone, and installing WordPress software yourself.

If you find wordpress.com difficult, this will be even more difficult.

wordpress.com questions need to be asked on their support pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/

Yes, sorry, I don’t understand the difference between wordpress.com and .org and there’s no indication on the log-in page for my site. I’ll try the link you have posted.

Thanks for that. How can I tell if my current site is built on .com or .org? The login page uses my own domain followed by /wp-login but I can’t find anything on the dashboard page that tells me.

    Thanks again.

The “correct way” to answer your question is to look your domain name up in a WHO-IS service and determine whether your domain name is pointing at wordpress.com.

Unfortunately, there isn’t anything truly definitive on the Admin Dashboard. But I did some checking and it is unlikely that you would see a Shop item near the top of the left sidebar on anything but wordpress.com. So, if you see Shop, you are almost certainly on wordpress.com

The best way to build your WordPress site is register a hosting acc and have your own domain name.

    Connecting them!

Download WordPress from www.ads-software.com and upload to your host, setup your self-host WordPress website.

Using free or premier WP theme, intall any plugin you want!

    that’s it!

    Hope it help…

You can build a site to replace your existing one and use your current domain to access it.

You can sniff around to figure out how it is setup, but why not email the person who built your site and holds the domain? If your site is on WordPress.com, they will be able to supply your with the account credentials. If it is hosted by them, they can transfer your domain to your new host when you are ready for your site to go live.

Can you help me with your website and i will help you?
explaining various this will keep you confused. so to be precise i would need to know website.
