WordPress came a a feature of the hosting account I set up for my webswite. I was looking for easy to use blogware – I think I got screwed. Why is there no support for this product? Who are the creators of this product and where are they? Why do they not answer e-mails? How can I get rid of all the stuff on the dashboard – I’m not interested in it and I don’t want to see it? In one of your forums it says that you can easily upload images with just one click – where the hell is that? I look at that section and all I see is code – I am not interested in code nor do I want to learn about it. Why does this just come with two ugly templates? Why do none of the other templates that you can upload for WordPress seem to work properly? Somewhere it says that some templates are old and may be missing features – then why offer them? Could you spend a moment or two and identify which ones they are?

Many people put their time and effort into making wordpress. So, instead of just dissing it all and hoping for quick fixes, actually try to figure it out yourself first. The answers to all your questions can be found with a 5 minute google search or a read of the codex. Dona€?t flame wordpress because you are incompetent. If you have a real question, feel free to come back, and ask POLITLEY. I am sure that the support team, or me, will be happy to help. WordPress is a great tool, but to get some you have to give some.
Cron
If we’re all to be polite (which really is a good thing to be, by the way), can we also not go around calling others incompetent merely because they haven’t figured things out yet? As for the rest: +1.
Why is there no support for this product?
Welcome to the WordPress Support Forums. We are the support for this product.
Who are the creators of this product and where are they?
https://www.ads-software.com/about/
Why do they not answer e-mails?
Because we, the WordPress Support Forum volunteers, are the support for this product. If you have a question, please post it here in a polite and calm manner.
How can I get rid of all the stuff on the dashboard?
In one of your forums it says that you can easily upload images with just one click – where the hell is that?
Go to Options/Miscellanious to enable uploads, then visit your new “Upload” tab. Or, use one of the many freely available plugins.
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Plugins/Images
Why does this just come with two ugly templates?
The developers could package WordPress with all 400+ themes, but that would be too much. So, they have included two plain themes to encourage your creativity.
Why do none of the other templates that you can upload for WordPress seem to work properly?
Because you are probably getting them from the wrong source. You are probably downloading WP v1.2.x styles rather than WP v1.5.x themes. Or, you aren’t following the proper theme installation instructions.

Somewhere it says that some templates are old and may be missing features – then why offer them?
Ask the people who are offering them. We have no control over what they do.
Here are a few more resources for you:

Well, I guess I am looking for a “quick-fix” – I am looking for USER FRIENDLY blogware. I took your advice and did a google search for “change dashboad” and found a post from someone who wanted to do the same thing I do. The reply referred a url that was nothing but code. As I said, I have previously searched the forums here and, for example, there was post that said you could easily upload images on the “manage” page – but there is nothing there but code!! If you need to write code to use this blog software why isn’t that mentioned up front? Who is Cron? Why do you feel the need to insult and call me “incompetent?” You know nothing about me except that I don’t write code nor do I really want to learn how to. I have used other blog software before and none of it was this difficult or confusing. I thought this would be a solution since it was part of my hosting package and I would be saved the anguish of trying to upload software to my hosting companies servers. I can guarantee you that right now and in the near future people like me will be looking for such a solution, and if they meet up with difficult programs like this, it will reflect negatively on both the software provider and the hosting companies who bundle such software.
I still don’t see what is so difficult about checking the documentation for answers, or asking for answers in a polite manner. Regardless of that, were my answers of any help to you?
OK, as far as support goes, I guess I am used to a different kind of support – endless searching for forums and posts really doesn’t make it for me – I am busy and do have time to make getting a peice of software to work a full time job. In relation to who you are, I was interested in whether this was a company with offices and telephone number – which apparently it is not. Re: the dashboard – I hit the link and this is what she had to say: “So I hacked the code, trimmed it of all fat and made it look lean and mean on an Atkins diet.” Hacked the code – I have no idea what that means. She also suggests that you download something with no explanation as to what it is that you are downloading. I downloaded the theme FROM YOUR CODEX and I followed the instructions exactly. “Ask the people who are offering them?”?? I don’t know how just yet to reply to that . . .
Sorry if you think I was impolite, I am just very frustrated . I’ve read the “documentation” on themes several times but I still have a problem with the theme I uploaded. One of the other posts referenced a page for plug-ins but that was just a long list of what I assume are various products but there is no explanation as to what they are etc. I should think that having an image upload feature built into the blog from the start would be rather easy, expecially since almost every other blogware in the world has one.
Hmmm. Well, we’re not real sure what you want so far.
Trimming the dashboard: What theme are you using? That has a bit to do with it. Are you facile with html and css? If not, then you’re presumably wanting someone to provide the file for you to use, without any intervention on your part, yes?
I could do that. But your attitude doesn’t make me inclined to do so. So try this link: https://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/wordpress-15-hack-how-to-trim-the-fat-resource-hogging-admin-dashboard-version-2/
You might simply try the hosted wordpress solution: https://wordpress.com.
In relation to who you are, I was interested in whether this was a company with offices and telephone number – which apparently it is not.
Lol, goodness no. WordPress is an open-source blogging platform. Which means that we, the support forum volunteers, get paid absolutely nothing, and the developers get paid by whatever small sum of money manages to trickle in via donations. Basically, we all have our own lives and our own jobs. We are giving up a majority of our free time to contribute to WordPress out of the kindness of our own hearts.
The link that I gave you tells you exactly what to do. You just need to read past the forth paragraph:
“If you like it, feel free to download. Grab the index.php and drop it in wp-admin directory, replacing the original file. You must make a backup of the original file before that (and everything else under the Sun if you so like).”
::Edit:: There is a newer version here: https://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/wordpress-15-hack-how-to-trim-the-fat-resource-hogging-admin-dashboard-version-2/
I downloaded the theme FROM YOUR CODEX and I followed the instructions exactly [and it didn’t work].
Then please create a new thread and include as much detail as possible (including the name of the theme). And, please try to be calm and polite about it. We are volunteers. By our very human nature, and our right as volunteers, we choose who we support and who we ignore.
“Ask the people who are offering them?”?? I don’t know how just yet to reply to that . . .
The Codex is contributed to by the community. There is no way that we can control the quality of all 400+ themes listed there, because we get paid absolutely nothing. Someone added that theme to that list. More than likely, the theme’s developer posted it to the Codex’s list. At the very least, the theme’s developer is the one who is offering the theme for free download and usage.
vkaryl – again I apologize for my attitude but after two days of just trying to get a template to work, I am about ready to pull my hair out. At least, I didn’t call anyone a name. I don’t think you read all of my post – I thought I was on a word press hosted solution. The page you referred me to says nothing about hosting, only: Want a Blog? Get one now? Again, no real explantation as to what it is being offered. I also went to the other link you provided, read one of my previous posts.
Who the hell are you and where do you get off, storming onto a DOT ORG (which usually means nonprofit/volunteer) like some self-important asshole, demanding answers without even attempting to figure things out for yourself? You’ve obviously yet to realize that people are human and deserve your respect. Not only is it the right way to behave, but theya re more likely to like you and want to help you, instead of lashing back out at you like I’ve done above.
Now, to the point:
-This is open-source, community-driven software.
-The people who put it together tend to be innovative, enterprising types coming up with cool solutions for their own web pages, and gracious enough to share their work with others.
-If you follow the directions, it is pretty idiotproof/plug-and-play. After you get it running (which takes less than an hour from ground-zero to fully-operational), you are free to tinker with and customize it however you like. You are also invited to share your work with others as they will have done for you.
-Cookies make friends. Meanness makes people ignore you.
-On the other hand, most people here are really nice and will do their best to help you out. As is the same for most other human-centric communities.
-If you want a nicer looking backend, get wp-dash and the Tiger Admin plugin. I’ll go find the links for you:https://somethingunpredictable.com/wp-dash/
https://orderedlist.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-tiger-administration/
-As for images, you can post them by hand and use /<img> tags like you can on any website. Alternatively, you can use a plugin like Photopress or Exhibit, as linked by macmanx
-549 of the best, most up-to-date WordPress themes: (you’ll probably only even care to see 5 or 10% of them)
https://blogging.typepad.com/how_to_blog/2005/03/comprehensive_l.html
I think that’s about all for now. People are here to be helpful, but don’t be an ass. Mmmk?
I thought I was on a word press hosted solution. The page [vkaryl] referred me to says nothing about hosting, only: Want a Blog? Get one now? Again, no real explantation as to what it is being offered.
I’m sure that Vicki wasn’t trying to be misleading. If you just want a blog and don’t want mess with the hassles of a hosting account, you can get a free hosted blog by signing up at https://wordpress.com/ or https://blogsome.com/ . But, if you want to tough it out and run your own installation of WordPress (which you will be happier with in the long run), then you’re in the right place.
Again I apologize for my slights to whoever you are. How am I supposed to know that you are volunteers? Where does it say that on your web site?
Re: “if you like it, just download it.” Like what? I need to know what it is I am downloading. An index.php file could be anything.
As I mentioned I got WordPress through my hosting company and they will not support it. If you can’t understand that I am trying to work with your product and am very frustrated and if you are so easily offended and want to “pick and choose” who you support, perhaps you should be be foisting your software on the unsuspecting public.
to the illustrated life – who are you to be insulting and calling people names? Like three times already I apologized for any insults – you want to be treated with respect yet you can certainly dish out the insults – AND I don’t even know who you are? What is your connection with wordpress? What are your creditials? As for DOT ORG I am a dot.org too, so keep your mean spirited remarks to yourself. As for idiot proof/plug-and-play – wordpress is definately not that. A quick search through these forums confirms that there are an awful lot of problems with this product and that I am not the only one having a tough time getting the templates to work correctly.
How am I supposed to know that you are volunteers? Where does it say that on your web site?
“Everyone that answers questions on the Forum is a volunteer. Volunteers don’t get paid to answer questions.”

Re: “if you like it, just download it.” Like what? I need to know what it is I am downloading. An index.php file could be anything.
An index.php file is an index.php file. This particular one just so happens to be offered by a trusted WordPress plugin developer and one whom I consider to be my friend. Now, you asked for a solution to “get rid of all the stuff on the dashboard”, and I gave you a solution. If you don’t want to use it, that’s your business, but don’t ask for it again, because that’s the only solution that I’m going to give you.
As I mentioned I got WordPress through my hosting company and they will not support it. If you can’t understand that I am trying to work with your product and am very frustrated and if you are so easily offended and want to “pick and choose” who you support, perhaps you should be be foisting your software on the unsuspecting public.
We do no such “foisting”, and we are only offended by offensive people. WordPress is an open-source blogging platform, which means that it can be freely distributed. We cannot control how WordPress is distributed. The developers placed a download link for WordPress here at www.ads-software.com, and as far they are concerned, that is the only “official” place that you can download it. Any choice to distribute WordPress in any other way shape or form (whether it be via modifications, one-click installers, or any other form of bundle packaging) is the choice of the distributors, not the WordPress developers.
