We’re using the Stripe addon to take payments for all our listings.

We’ve just noticed that user accounts are being created on our website even when a customer doesn’t finalize their payment (thus they don’t have any listing on the website).

In looking into it we’ve been able to identify that user accounts are being created at the point at which the ‘Continue To Payment’ button is selected, regardless of whether payment is processed.

We don’t want anyone to have an account on our website if they haven’t submitted payment.

Is it possible to ensure that, when taking paid listings, user accounts are created after payment has been successfully processed?

    Hi @salpetriere

    Thanks for your question.

This is not possible with the plugin, as the user accounts are tied to the payment information, especially if the fee plan is recurring. If user registration occurred after payment, the user could pay for a listing and then not register at all, leaving you stuck with a payment that isn’t attached to a listing.

I can submit this for consideration by our development team as a possible future enhancement, but I can’t make any promises on the timeline for development.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!

    Hi @bobbied

Thanks so much for your response.

If user registration occurred after payment, the user could pay for a listing and then not register at all – Given the fact that registration occurs automatically, this wouldn’t be a concern.

I’m not suggesting that the user should input their registration details after payment has been processed. The front end user registration process should remain exactly as it is currently, with the account details entered at the bottom of the listing submission form. However, the plugin should not create the account until after payment has been successfully processed.

This is how good systems handle user accounts tied to payment functionality. WooCommerce for example.

With the current system, if the user chooses not to proceed with payment we end up with user accounts on our website which have no listing. That’s not good.

We’d very much appreciate it you could submit this for consideration by your development team.

    HI @salpetriere

Thank you again for clarifying. Since we are working on this via email and investigating it as a bug, I will continue the conversation via email. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
