Hi, I am very new to WordPress and WooCommerce. I am in the process of converting a site to WooCommerce and I am looking for suggestions for themes and plug ins.

The site sells tickets to activities and tours in Hawaii (helicopter tours, luaus, boat tours etc…) so there are a few unique requirements that I have.

Here is a sample page of a luau:
    https://honuhawaiiactivities.com/germaines-luau-p-47.html

Each “tour” or activity will need it’s own calendar with some days available and some not.

Each activity will need multiple options. At the bottom you will see 3 different packages for this one event and within those packages you have Adult tickets, Youth tickets and Child tickets all at different prices. Then each of those will have transportation options that may modify the price.

The old site was made with osCommerce. They called them “master items” and “slave items” items (not my choice of terms). Master being the main product page and slaves being the adult, child, youth tickets.
The drop downs were called options and attributes.

Some of those drop-downs were tour times or meal options. Here is another example:
    https://honuhawaiiactivities.com/north-shore-shark-adventures-p-1628.html

I’ve searched around and found a few things that look ok, but I wanted to know if anyone knows of plugins or themes that would be a close fit for what I have now.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Kekoa,

Welcome to WordPress and WooCommerce. Whoop! Whoop! You’ve come to a fantastic community! I write a plugin called CharterBoatBookings, but unfortunately we are really set up for a single owner operator so it wont work for you.

But, I have built sites for other clients in the past with similarly complex set ups as honuhawaiiactivities.com…

My advice is to look at the WooCommerce Bookings plugin offered by the WooCommerce team. I think it is built and maintained by Automattic. I can tell you from my experience with that plugin that it does take some learning curve to configure the settings so that they will work exactly the way that you want. BUT – the forum is great and the team are very responsive helping and offering advice.

If for any reason you can’t make it work for you, there are so many plugin devs that can add on features and modify plugins to get you the functionality and user experience you are after.

    All the best,

Hey thanks for that. I noticed its like $248 a year. Is that to be able to use it or it that just for support?

    Anyone got other suggestions too?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
WooCommerce Bookings will certainly do the job for you.

The cost is an annual license that covers Support and Updates for the year and is not required for full functionality of the plugin.

If you want to try it, we have a 30-day refund policy. If the product doesn’t work the way you need or you think another product would work better, we are more than happy to provide a full refund.
You can read more about our refund policy on our website here: https://woocommerce.com/refund-policy/

I hope that helps you to figure it out.
Feel free to get back to us if you have further questions.

    Kekoa,

Charters and rentals like this is my husband’s business so that is why I have a good handle on the options. I have looked at most all of the options available even including all the SAAS solutions. In my opinion, you are best off with WooCommerce Bookings in terms of cost.

There are several Software as a Service (SAAS) providers that offer very full featured solutions. From my experience they end up being much much more expensive in the long run because most charge % of gross revenue versus a flat up front fee or in some cases both.

I’m very interested in what you ultimately decide and how your experience turns out. Feel free to ping me with any questions. I am @megphillips91 on most channels including the making WordPress slack.
