New user registration not in default role

  • I have set the default role for new user registration to Subscriber; however, when I tested this by registering as a new user, I was automatically made a Contributor.

    I want new users to be able to self-register as Subscribers. How can I make sure this is what happens, or maybe I should ask, why is the new user registration not going to the default role that I have set?

    That’s not by design. All my new members are subscribers. What plugins are you running?

    No plugins. I am using the JobRoller theme by AppThemes. It overrides the standard WordPress registration form, so I am wondering if there may be something in that code that is setting the User registration to contributor, but I do not know where to look or what to look for.

    I have asked AppThemes for some help on this issue, but have not received a useful response so far.

    You can test by temporarily switching to Twenty Ten (the default theme) and see if you can reproduce the error.
