New users adding as administrators

  • Hi there,

    I managed to get access to my hacked wordpress site from my hosting company this morning and delete nearly 4k users that seems to have added themselves as admin – I am not sure how they managed to do this. Someone then added 5 posts to my site too and changed access to lock me out.

    I have run my scan this morning and all seems to be sorted, but I am still getting people adding themselves – how do I shut this down so that they can’t do it. I have Wordfence (free version) working on the blog just now. But not sure what else I can do.

    Get a fresh cup of coffee, take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

    If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri and Wordfence are a couple.
