new users are already approved on registration

I have just updated to the latest UAM version. I have been using this plug-in successfully for over a year now. This may be a setting but I cannot find it. On registration new users no longer need my approval – they have access to my locked page immediately where I previously had to approve them. Is this a setting or do you think an interaction with another plug-in? Thanks
