If you say the theme is not available on www.ads-software.com, that’s news to me? I installed it from there in the first place, and it was working fine until I was advised to update to the new theme version by Tyler Moore via an email.

I’ve tried to contact Tyler Moore or his associates from tyler.com but there’s no way whatsoever of contacting them. It seems they’ve done a runner. The Tesseract help pages have no mention of what to do if the theme has crashed, and therefore locked out, as it presumably has.

As I’m locked out altogether and cannot even get in to my dashboard to alter or install another theme where can I go from here.

As I said earlier, I’m stuck.

I am having the exact same issue with the Tesseract theme today. Was doing just fine yesterday, but logged in today and nothing there was the error message.

To gain access to your dashboard again, you need to login to your cPanel and switch from the Tesseract theme to one of the default themes (ex.twentysixteen) via the wp-options in phpMyAdmin. Reload your dashboard afterwards and you should be fine.

As far as you being locked out of dashboard, just access your site using a FTP program and change the directory name of your active theme. That will hopefully activate your default theme and you should be able to access your site.

Thinking about what Contentiskey said, regarding not getting the theme from www.ads-software.com, I understand where she’s coming from now. No, I did not get it from within www.ads-software.com, I had to go and get it from tesseract.com to download it and upload it from my desktop. If my memory serves me correctly.

Ok, that’s that misunderstanding cleared up.

So it would seem Tyler Moore is sailing very close to the wind here with his Tesseract theme and he’s encouraging those who don’t know any better to do the same (me for instance).

Obviously I would much prefer to get a theme that is sanctioned by www.ads-software.com, so it looks as if a whole new installation is on the only route to go.

What I think I’ve done, is unwittingly installed Tesseract 2 over Tesseract 1 without realising there’s an upgrade path to follow and cannot be deviated from. Using the FTP method suggested seems easy enough to delete the theme and get back to square one, which leaves me with the job of finding and installing a suitable theme.

What I do like about Tyler Moore is the fact he’s offered us a YouTube Video to follow that even an idiot can follow – I did – which makes life so much easier when you’re stumbling around in the dark wondering how on earth to build a website…

The easiest route seems to be to delete Tesseract 1 by using the FTP method and then reinstalling Tesseract 2 with the help of the video on YouTube that Tyler Moore has helpfully provided.

But, that’s not something I really want to do. Especially as it’s not sanctioned.

I would much prefer to keep within the guidelines and not deviate, no matter how tempting it is to step outside to the wild side.

So my question is now:

What can I replace Tesseract 1 with??

I need a photographic website theme (not a blog) preferably from www.ads-software.com that has simple instructions to follow. Paid for or free, it doesn’t matter so long as it comes with instructions to follow. Preferably on YouTube, which is about my level of expertise.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

PS, one final question: If he gives this theme away for free, apart from buying the plugin which I did, how does he make his money?

I am sorry you are experiencing this issue. Can you please try clearing your cache and refreshing your browser. There seemed to have been a server error last night and it should be back up and running.

Ok well that sounds all well and good. Except who had the server error? Was it Tyler’s servers? If it was, what’s my website got to do with his server? It seems to me the internet is now a vast swarm of spyware. I had wondered why Tyler was so keen to give away for free all the hard work he’d put into the Tesseract theme. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. And, having had a good look at all the YouTube vids available to us stumbling around in the dark, there isn’t much other choice but to go with the Tesseract again, simply because it’s the only one that offers ease and simplicy of installation. The 2016 looks nice, but there’s nothing relevant to what I want. I don’t want a blog, I want a website. And that’s what Tyler gives us. Spyware or not, it’s what I’m going to go with, because there isn’t a credible alternative.

Just a final word here if I may. I did finally manage to sort out my website and it wasn’t as terrifying as I thought it would be. With Tyler Moore walking us through it, it’s nowhere near as bad as it might have been. We’re not all clever clogs and WordPress is very daunting and to some of us, it’s absolutely terrifying. Even now the prospect of changing the background image at a later date is not a prospect I want to consider but will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I don’t feel Tesseract should be boycotted because it’s maker has fallen foul of some T’s & Cs. Until some other brave souls step up and provide the kind of instruction that Tyler Moore has, I feel everyone should help out the best they can. Especially if someone is in a state of desperado, they need all the help they can get. This community is all about helping out and shouldn’t focus on the rights or wrongs of a particular themes alleged infringements.

I didn’t have to fix it. It fixed itself. I left it for awhile while I caught my breath and when I came back to it, it was fixed.

I never did find out what the problem was. I think it had something to do with Tyler Moore’s servers. From what I understand all Tyler Moore’s themes go back to their maker for instructions every time a user uses your Tyler Moore themed website. So when their servers play up, so does your website.

Although having said that, there is a specific upgrade path that needs to be followed when upgrading your Tesseract theme from version 1 to version 2… or whatever.

Have a look on YouTube for the instuction vids, which I failed to do first time around, and get the full upgrade instructions to follow.

Do that and it’ll all work fine. Thou shalt not panic. Commandment #96

I’m closing this topic. That theme is not welcomed in these forums. If you have Tesseract theme problems then you need to seek help from the author. Here’s why.

1. The Tesseract theme is not GPL compatible. The terms of on the author’s site include this verbiage.

This license does not grant you permission to:

• Remove any copyright from all versions of the Tesseract theme without the purchase of the Unbranding Plugin license
• Advertise the download of the theme for sale
• Attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained on Tesseract/Gogoit Corp.’s web site or products

Which pretty much guarantees that that theme is not for these forums. That’s a real deal killer in this community.

Non GPL products are not welcome in the WordPress community. Official WordPress policy states that all plugins and themes that are publicly released are required to adhere to https://www.ads-software.com/about/gpl/

Any support requests for non-GPL products are usually ignored, in the interests of supporting the community and its freedoms.

2. This theme is a commercial product even though the author gives his theme away for free. In order to modify the copyright statement (according to the author) you need to purchase a plugin from the author.

For pro or commercial product support please contact the author directly on their site.

As the author is aware, commercial products are not supported in these forums. Yes, I know you didn’t pay the author but it’s still a commercial product and a non-GPL compatible one at that.

I’m sorry you are having problems and I hope you are able to find support for your theme but please, seek support elsewhere. That theme is not welcome here.
