• Hi all,

I’ve just had a new wordpress website built by a developer we didn’t choose (don’t ask why)

They have just handed over login details to the wordpress site so that we can edit copy/ text before it goes live.

However pretty much all of the instructions that have been sent mean we have to edit the PHP files just to update text i.e headings and body copy etc.

I’ve used wordpress a lot and to update text on pages the only thing I’ve had to do is edit the relevant page or widget area on a page. I’ve never had to do this.

Is this the result of someone who doesn’t know how to use wordpress properly?

  • Yes!

There’s no reason whatsoever that under normal circumstances you’d need to edit PHP files to update the websites copy.

What can you see in the admin area, and look under the ‘Posts’ or pages items, then try to edit one in there. That’s where it’s normally done.
