New & Wondering if it will….

  • I hope someone can help me. I would like to use WordPress but not sure if it will do what I require. Dont want to waste time if I’m going to hit a brick wall.

    I want to create a website that has a backend Database. I want to be able to allow users to upload pictures and text against certain categories; do searches for content that is then presented; allow printing of pages etc. Maybe in future allow video clips to be uploaded too.

    A bit like Youtube I suppose – but will be for quite specialist use.

    Is there enough functionality to do these things ?

    Yeah, but it would be a LOT of customized plugins and tweaks.

    I would start looking for plugins to do the image upload and categorization. Searching for content is built in, and printing’s not a function of WP (unless you mean a printable formatted page, which is a theme).

    Thanks Ipstenu…which parts do you think need the plugins – the video uploads – or any upload?

    ANy other suggestions of how you would do it?

    WordPress, natively, can handle uploads. Allowing all users to upload is easy if you just want registered users to upload. The thing that gets hard is setting it so they’re organized. I’ve never used WP for it, but there are group management plugins.
