With the latest WordPress SEO by Yoast update, you can’t edit the SEO Title for an article. Mr. Yoast, please return to the old way of populating that field.

With this update, the field is pre-populated with a greyed-out post title. When you put the cursor in there to edit it, you cannot select any of the text. So, you have to type or cut & paste manually. The other way was much better.

I find I often have to edit that field. Sometimes the title is too long, or, as it includes the site title, sometimes that has to be removed, if it’s too long. I also like to edit it for other reasons.

Maybe you could give the option to use it the old way in the plugin’s preferences?

Meanwhile, is there a way to change this that anyone is aware of?

    Otherwise, great plugin!

  • Thanks for the “spacebar” tip – it works and clears the greyed-out SEO title, allowing to write a custom SEO title.

It seems none of the posts related to this problem has been answered by the author of the plugin…

Yet another unnecessary and unasked for plugin update that makes us lose our time.

    Code isn’t poetry.

Yes, the spacebar solution works. Enter your cursor into the greyed-out title field, press the spacebar … and the field is editable.

What a irritating, time-wasting bug this is! I lost almost 2 hours of time this morning, trying everything under the sun to make the titles editable again. Initially I thought it was a setting (nope). Then I thought that maybe only the initial author could change it (nope). How about only the original administrator (no again).

Eventually I found my way to this forum, read my way through all the similar comments until I found the solution several months ago.

How can the author of this software allow this bug to continue? If he was liable for every hour that users have lost due to this bug, he’d be put for tens of thousands of dollars!

    Just fix it please!!

Still waiting for this to be fixed… I want to edit the greyed-out title, not re-type the whole thing.

What I’ve been doing for now is highlighting the title showing in the “Snippet Preview” on top of the plugin section for the post, copying and pasting, then editing. But I agree, it’s strange the author hasn’t responded at all on this issue.

Just click in the box then start typing, it’s that easy.

I can edit and enter the title, in seo box, but i just found this title “seo title” is no longer picked by google. Google now shows only my default post title. Considering I am still waiting for a help on my question, since this plugin caused duplicate tags and titles on my page, i think its time to delete it, since author doesnt care and there is no support here at all.
