• Hey all, wordpress newb here! Just started reading the documentation yesterday; this is pretty cool stuff!

Now I’m wondering…I’ve got an existing site, which is static and (therefore) stale. But it’s got some very cool visual effects that I’d *really* like to keep, if possible.

Should I replace my site by creating a new site based on WP? Or should I try to embed WP functionality into my existing site?

I guess what I’m really wondering is: is it possible for a WP site to look anything close to my existing site? ( https://www.godsong.us) My goal is to give our pastors their own blogs; but also keep with the look/feel of the current site.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You can make a theme that looks anything you want. The limit is the sky… or your html/css skills ??

    2. My goal is to give our pastors their own blogs;
WP is not a multiblog tool! If you want 10 blogs = that means 10 WP installs. Just for the sake of clarification.

There are some 3 column themes out there you could modify to be like your site.
You can start here and do a google search for WordPress themes.

moshu is right – this does not creat multiple blogs. Possibly you could give each pastor his own “category” and have him post under that to keep it one simple blog.

Hmmm…well; my css skills are “newborn”, and modifying a WP theme looks daunting (but I haven’t read all the docs yet).

I think I remember seeing a doc or two on how to integrate WP posts within existing pages. So, how about this: set each pastor up with their own WP install, then display their posts in different iframes within my current site? All their publishing would be just like normal WP, and they could point people to their full WP site if they wanted to.

    Thoughts?

Well, you will not find many fans of (i)frames here… ??
    But, ultimately, it’s your site.
You could also use the RSS feeds of every blog (WP install) to display some recent posts on a “central” page.

Yeah, I know; I almost like saying “iframe” just to watch people react! ??

But seriously, the RSS feed sounds promising. Where would I go to get info on how to embed that data into an html page? Or is that something simple that you might be able to show me here? (I don’t want to hijack my own thread; but all is fair in love and war…!)

I am not sure it would work on a html page – but it works for sure in .php. Search here for “feedreader”; as far as I can remember there are a few plugins that make a page to “read” and display the feeds. On the other end WP creates automatically the feeds, so that’s not a problem.

Thanks, moshu; I searched around and found this: https://www.feedforall.com/free-php-script.htm

I read the docs and had it setup in less than half an hour; pretty good for someone with ZERO php experience! ??

I am now messing with getting the output to look just right; but the basic functionality is working.

I think I may just setup 3 WP installs, give each pastor a full fledged Blog of thier own, and then use the above to show the latest 5 or 10 entries from each blog. Then when you click on one of those entries, a new window will open, showing the full-on blog. (I’m pretty sure I can figure out how to change the colors to sort of match our site.)

I’m thinking of creating sub-domains for each blog; pastor1.godsong.us, pastor2.godsong.us, etc., and installing a WP in each sub-domain.

Don’t know why I went into that much detail…maybe because it’s been a long day, and I’m tired! Anyway, thanks for your help; here goes nothing! ??

Well, that seems to work fine; got all 3 blogs setup and running, with feeds linked to our homepage. Very cool! Thanks for your help, everybody!!
