• Admins – Please don’t delete this. Let members make thier own choice in where they get their support.
A lot of people have recently complained that the software used to power this forum lacks the features, performance, and security that many of us want in a support forum. The administrators of this forum have refused to even acknowledge the requests of many of it’s own members to add features that would really benefit seinor members and newbies alike, or to swich to another forum software. Many of the packages available are free, and have importers available that would make it easy to switch. It seems like the admins simply do not care to have a forum that is useful, since this software lacks so many useful features, such as the ability to post php code, send private messages, and use e-mail notification. To fill the void, I have started an “unofficial ” WordPress Support Forum that uses the excellent vBulletin software, and I will actually listen to my users and try to implement any of their suggestions. Please visit us @ the URL below until our new domain propegates. The new domain is wp-forums.org.

  • Guys I do not mean to intrude but as a matter of principle it might be wise if guys who are not qualified and specialist attorneys in the relevant jurisdictions did not appear to give what may or may not be unsound quasi legal advice. This may be a spat. It could in some cases be very ugly.

I don’t think there is a cause for legel concern here. No one has stolen anyone’s intellectual property or anything of the sort. It’s simply a matter of a fan putting together a site to build upon what already exists. It’s not meant to replace any official forums, it’s meant to enhance. It’s not like I’m using any of the official WordPress created documentation and trying to pass it off as my own. I acknowledge the creators of WordPress at my site, and even have several different links pointing to resources here. So far no one has come forward and told me that I was infringing on their rights either. And if they do, I will try to acknowlege them in any way that I can.
Now let’s let this rest. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to participate. You can stay here. I have said many times, feel free to come join us, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel free to continue posting here as well. I will in fact myself continue to post here on occasion.

hey guys, cant we just settle down!
allusion is ok with the unofficial forum provided there is a clear indication on the site that it is unofficial which Joshua agrees too…
what else is there to argue about!
Matt, u can start a page on the site on Fan Pages/More Resources/Unofficial support listing sites like the ones by joshua/laughinglizard and other hack wizards on the line of:
    https://my.opera.com/community/fans/links/ ??

This thread has more posts than that entire forum.

this forum has 400 times more users.

“Admins – Please don’t delete this. Let members make thier own choice in where they get their support.”
If they had any sense they would have already.
“A lot of people have recently complained that the software used to power this forum lacks the features, performance, and security that many of us want in a support forum.”
Features, maybe. Performance? This is the fastest forum I’ve ever used. Security… WTF?
“The administrators of this forum have refused to even acknowledge the requests of many of it’s own members to add features that would really benefit seinor members and newbies alike, or to swich to another forum software.”
Didn’t they add RSS feeds and some other stuff? Plus this shit validates, and I don’t know any other package that does that. Make a list and post it. It seems like a spell checker would be particularly useful to you. Does VB have that?
“Many of the packages available are free, and have importers available that would make it easy to switch.”
Easier said than done. Maybe the larger packages have importers, I don’t think much works with minibb.
“It seems like the admins simply do not care to have a forum that is useful, since this software lacks so many useful features, such as the ability to post php code, send private messages, and use e-mail notification.”
I’m not stupid. I can post PHP code, check back to see if anyone has replied, subscribe to a RSS feed. WTF needs private messages? You seem to be a fan of email, use it. If someone doesn’t have contact information, they probably don’t want stupid fucks contacting them.
“To fill the void, I have started an “unofficial ” WordPress Support Forum that uses the excellent vBulletin software, and I will actually listen to my users and try to implement any of their suggestions.”
Here’s a suggestion: make your code validate./ The front page of your forum is 60K compressed. The front page of these is 15K compressed, and 5K of that is the google ads, so it’s 10K without the ads. So your forum is 4-6x larger while at the same time offering NO INFORMATION. Maybe if you were an expert at WP or something, and had contributed a bunch of code. Why should anyone take your forum seriously? If you really want to help answer support requests on this forum, or write some documentation stuff, a HOWTO, whatever.
    “Happy Posing”
    exactly.

lol I <3 anonymous comments! Brilliant.
My whole confusion over this new board is what’s the point? You can’t “make up” developers, and you can’t radically change WP on your own and still call it WP.
And I think this board is great as it is. Maybe a preview for all the special-character problems that come up, but the “edit” function takes care of that and more (well being an anon, you might not have known). ??
The light-weight design is more of a “stream-lined” then “featureless” desicion. PMs annoy me, there are better methods to communicate privately. And at a glance I can see what’s been updated or not. How can you *not* like this?

maybe matt can apply something that adds a new image to the posts that have been updated using some cookie or something. but i still believe rss is the way to go to see if the post u want to monitor has an update or not…

    I’m using the search function.
The first thing I do is searching posts I created myself.
    A little complicated, but it works… ??
Besides, I don’t think it’s a good idea to use the “WTF” abbreviation so often in one post.
There are more polite ways of saying you don’t agree.
    No need for swearwords.

Not everyone is clever enough to figure out workarounds like searching on your own name or signing up for RSS feeds. The fact that the other software is easier to use may encourage less intelligent users to post at the new place instead, and I’m all for that ??

i believe anyone smart enough to install WP on his/her own would know how to use the search function… infact i think anyone on the internet would know how to use a search function. coz if he/she dont i believe he/she wont even know how to use/check e-mail.

Well, the number of posts around here suggesting people have difficulty with the search function is truly stunning ?? Your right though, some of the questions we get, I can’t believe they even managed to get it installed.

    ?? its a weird weird world…

“The fact that the other software is easier to use may encourage less intelligent users to post at the new place instead, and I’m all for that”
Your contempt for an entire class of users is rich. Are you sarcastic or really just a snob? Thank goodness the devs don’t think the same way.

so a forum that needs registration and perhaps activation too to just post ur first post will be helpful to a less intelligent user…
thank you god for my ignorance.
