Last week, I signed up for bluehost in an attempt to move my blog to self hosted. I installed wordpress from the bluehost installs. I had already bought my domain name through wordpress a few months ago, so I changed the nameservers through my wordpress.com account to bluehost’s instead of wordpress. However, now whenever I try to access wordpress through my bluehost panel, it instantly connects me to my wordpress.com NOT www.ads-software.com….however, I have an email in my inbox from www.ads-software.com telling me that I do have a www.ads-software.com blog, but I can’t access it now it always takes me to my wordpress.com?! Before switching nameservers etcs, I was able to get to a blank wordpress dashboard from .org but now that I’ve tried switching nameservers, etc., to get my domain linked with it, I can’t ever get to that dashboard, only my old wordpress.com dashboard. I’m not sure how to get this switched, as I went to selfhosted so I could have more flexibility. Any help would be appreciated!!

How long ago? It can take up to 72 hours for these changes to propagate fully.

I think you might still have to tell your BlueHost cPanel where to find things and/or get your htaccess file set up. Give BlueHost Support a call and you will likely get that resolved easily. Also, they will help you establish an SFTP connection for FileZilla (or whatever program) so you will not be sending your credentials out in plain text.

You need to change the DNS Name server on the original REGISTRAR account where you purchased your domain name. On the registrar account you’ll find DNS Nameserver section. You set them to the Bluehost DNS numbers, something like : Nameserver 1: ns1.bluehost.com , and NS2: ns2.bluehost.com – Then it takes 2 days or sometimes 3 before you can upload the new files to the correct Bluehost database and file system. Sometimes it’s easier to install a new WordPress site on the new host, then import posts and pages form old host. The old host will not go away unless you cancel or delete the files there… BUT the new domain will pop up once the name servers activate.
