New WP Install, Gmail Connection refused for URI

    My issue is exactly the same as this one. He had a contact form though. Mine is a brand new install. No other plugins though. Went through gmail api. Followed all instructions text and video. No authorization required, Secrets and URI are fine. Its in production and external. Everything on api side looks fine. On the final step for wpmailsmtp.com granting access and continue, returns to WP with error.

    Mailer: Gmail Connection refused for URI https://oauth2.googleapis.com/token

    I host my own WP 6.4.3 site and server. Everything is up to date. Maybe relevant. php 8.3, apache2, Linux WebServer 6.1.21-v7+, mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.5.23-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnueabihf
