    Hi Everyone,

I am absolutely delighted with Pods it looks seriously nifty having made my first Pod I am very excited about the possibilities! However I am really struggling to get Archive pages to work – be it for a category or a tag – they are blank and I am confused on what to do… Apologies this really is level 1 so please be aware.

Also, it seems the search function is also not pulling up any results – which I am sure will be related.

    Thank you

You’re running into one of those things that I wish would be fixed by WP Core; WP hard codes all the Category, Tag and Search to be restricted to “post” post-types only.

We have a code snippet to get around the category and tag issue. https://docs.pods.io/tips-techniques/displaying-custom-post-types-with-default-categories-tags/

You can add “is_search” to those conditionals, I believe, or use a better search plugin like Relevanssi or Ivory Search.

I run into this so often that I’ve just stopped using the built in Categories and Tags.

ooohhh interesting Jim what do you do instead when you mention: “I run into this so often that I’ve just stopped using the built in Categories and Tags.”

    thank you

I create Custom Taxonomies for my Custom Post Types (and for Posts) and associate them to everything. They tend to work out of the box more successfully.

We do this on our new docs site in the search (https://docs.pods.io/search/), by applying Context, Skill Level and Keywords to all the new post types in addition to Pages which we’re using for Docs

thanks Jim for this I will look at creating Custom Taxonomies, as I pasted and amended the Snippet you mentioned in my Child theme’s functions file and whilst it pulls up the Archive perfectly all my navigation seem to disappear (very odd) – thanks for your help, much appreciated.
