Newbie Customising Templates – Help?!
-
Hi, I’m new to WordPress. And still learning XHTML, CSS and PHP.
I’ve downloaded a template theme that I was wanting to modify. I was wanting to add a php for an RSS feed.
However I was unable to edit it in Theme Editor. At the bottom of the page it said “If this file were writable you could edit it.”
I thought – “go into the files permissions, alter them to 666, and then maybe it would let me edit.”
The outcome is I can no longer access this template file at all.
It no longer shows on my WordPress Themes page. It tells me that cutline-3-column-split-11/style.css file is not readable.
When I try to access it from my host File Manager I get the following error message:
Unable to change directory to /httpdocs/wp-content/themes/cutline-3-column-split-11/: ls_dir_wrapper() failed: . 1187262813 1024 root root 755 .. 1187262812 1024 root root 755 filemng: stat failed: No such file or directory
So now, I am unable to edit, delete, access, or use this file.
What’s going on? How do you edit freely available downloads and making them personal (while retaining the credit to the original maker)?
