Newbie – how can I add image with url link in a widget sidebar?

Why not just use the Text widget? You can upload the image to your Media Library, grab a copy of the uploaded image’s url and paste that into your link markup.

I did try this but it works in the page but didn’t work for me in the sidebar.

In the widget sidebar, the text widget only allows me to write text and save but possibly am misunderstanding. I tried Nextgen but that doesn’t give any way of linking an image to a url/page without hacking in.
