• Hello there. I’m brand new to WordPress and have very little knowledge of all the “basics” I’ve been reading on the forum and support pages.

I am hosted by 1 and 1. Created the myslq 5 database, uploaded wp with filezilla to the database, installation went fine as far as I can tell. At my wp admin page, when I click the “visit” site link the browser opens to a “default construction page” provided by 1 and 1.

Can anyone explain the how/what/where to fix this – and I mean literally in 4 year old idiot language.

    Thanks,

    Alex

  • just delete 1 and 1’s page so wordpress’ index.php will take over

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

Again, have no idea what I am doing.

How do I delete 1 and 1’s file? Where do I find this?

ftp to site or use host’s file manager
delete index.html that is in root of site

    AHHHHH!!!!!

    Much better.

Thanks so much. Have a great day!!!

Quick question if you have time or if it is a quick question. So all the other files are .php

Where did the index.html file come from, the isp? did wordpress generate this?

    Anyway, thanks again.

WordPress uses index.php and doesn’t generate any .html pages. Index.hmtl would have been from your host.
