    Hi there,

    I’m loving the idea of this plugin. It seems perfect for what I require, but being a bit of a newbie I’m not too sure about the shortcodes etc.

    What I’m looking for is some kind of main page that points people to the correct place page eg via town or city or category.

    Do I have to just create a list with direct links to the individual places pages? Or is there a way of searching via drop down or category etc?

    Sorry for all the questions!

    Thanks for reaching out!

    By default, there is a main page located at {yourdomain.com}/listings/. You will see a map and a paginated list of locations. Users can browse that list and can click the links to land on the individual listings pages.

    At the moment, there is only one shortcode… which is documented here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/stellar-places/faq/

    I’ve not created a search form shortcode, but it only makes sense that I would do so. List out what you’d like to be able to search by and I’ll try to get a search form shortcode out the door by next week.

    Thanks!

    Thanks so much

    So just to confirm – I create a page called ‘listings’ and insert the shortcode [stellar_places_map] and this will enable a map and list?

    I would love to be able to search by a few things, but most importantly location (town/city) if possible. At this point, I just need to populate the locator and get the listings page working correctly!

    Thanks again

    @drkasper,

    No need to create a page or use the shortcode to get listings to display. Just visit the /listings/ path off of your site’s domain and you will find the listings there. (creating a page with the slug listings will actually hide this, so if you’ve done that you would need to delete that page and empty the trash)

    However, you can use the shortcode anywhere else you want a map to show up. Currently, the shortcode only shows the map and not the listings.

    hi again,

    i can’t find a listings page – do I need to create it?
    I put the shortcode into a page ([stellar_places_map] ) but only a map showed, not the list. Is that correct?

    @drkasper

    There won’t be a ‘Listings’ page in the admin under the ‘Pages’ list. The listings page I’m referring to is actually a post type archive page, which means all you need to do to view it is visit the URL. I don’t know what your site’s domain is, but it would be mysitedomain.com/listings/.

    You are correct in that the shortcode only shows the map.

    i’m probably doing something stupid, but its not showing up (I’m not that useless, honestly!)

    I haven’t created a new page so its not that i’ve used the slug.

    I’ve put in some dummy location data to try to see it

    My site is under construction right now so its a subdomain (eg new.mysite.com/listings/) – would that make a difference?
    Do I have to move anything in the file manager?

    aah – i found the listings page under mysite.com/locations/

    So my question now is (sorry) – I just want to list the address and location page link, rather than all the content from the location page .

    Is this possible? Since I’ll be putting quite a bit of content on each individual location page.

    Now i’ve got the hang on it, what I would really like is to be able to seperate the listings according to category or town/city (or both).

    Is that possible?

    I can see I can do that within a map shortcode, but ideally I’d like the listings as well

    @drkasper

    Just a quick question: Now that you’ve found where the listings are, what would have been the best way / place for me to communicate that to you without you having to ask on the forums? I’d like to make sure I document things in a user-friendly way.

    By implementing a shortcode that handles search, I could give your users the ability to search by category and town/city. When the results are displayed, I could show the map below the form and the results listed below the map. Would this meet your current requirements? If not, let me know what I’m missing.

    I’ve been thinking about adding the option to display listings below the map for the normal shortcode, but I think doing so for the search results would be a good first step.

    Hi Micah,

    I’m now getting the hang of things and until filtered search and listings is available, I’ll probably hard code links on a page with a map. I’ve increased my categories to include towns/cities so I can add a map just for these places as a cheat.
    However search by location and categories to display a result as map and listings would be perfect.

    I just think some basic documentation would be useful .For example, it isn’t made clear about the /locations/ archive.

    A few clear pages of documentation would be good, eg
    1. Installation
    2. Setting up locations
    3. Displaying the map and locations
    4. Search and listings
    5. Shortcode and templates (as a non-technical person, I really find this part difficult to understand in the FAQs so maybe a glossary or some more usable examples)

    Just 1,2,3 and 5 would be really useful as a start. I think you basically have it in the FAQ’s but maybe make it clearer for idiots like me!

    Thanks again so much

    @drkasper

    Thanks for the feedback! I’ll see what I can do to improve the documentation. What was the first place you looked for documentation?

    I’ll try and get the search shortcode put together soon. I’ll probably start on that Tuesday. Thanks!

    I looked at the FAQs initially. But I did expect a bit more documentation. Maybe a pinned post or the forum?
