• Hi,

I am considering using WordPress as an easier way of managing my xhtml fishing website. With more content being added and more pages created, it is getting a little tedious with a text editor and also runs the risk of breaking a page by mistake!

I have never used a CMS in my life, I wouldnt even know where to start, but most folks seem to recommend WP as a good place due to it’s ease of use for beginners.

I assume with CMS, it’s all in the name, simply add content such as the text, images etc. The layout and design is taken care of by the template?

If the layout needed changing, for example a few column, background colour change, would this be done in the CSS and template itself?

I’ve had a quick look at some layouts, not found quite the one I am after.

I am running a fishing website, the current html setup is fixed width, with a portal style homepage, with a column to the right where my Invision forum posts feed, other links etc are placed.

I quite like flat/material looks. Can anyone suggest a place for me to have a look?

Is it quite easy to use the header and footer from a WP layout and integrate that into Invison by wrapping around the forum? It’s very easy with html which is what I am presently doing.

I consider myself quite skilled in hand coding pages with css/xhtml, and some knowledge of php.

Is it relatively easy to setup and create nice pages with Worpdress for a complete novice?

    Thank you,
    Bob

    Yup!

    Right again!

At the risk of seeming repetitive, “yup!”

Take things one step at a time, don’t expect to be perfect on day 1, and remember to breath, and you’ll be OK.

    Lol, thanks for the yups!

Best install it and have a go myself.

I think I’m having a dumb moment, but I can see the main content editor on pages, however links on the right side column such as in
    https://demosite.center/wordpress/

I cannot see where these could be edited?

I have a feeling I am overcomplicating it, probably because I’m used to created pages in notepad!

    Thanks

Sidebar stuff generally lives in widgets — look in Appearance -> Widgets
