Newly installed ai1ec, permalink confusion, what is correct?

I’ve had permalinks set to “post name”, but after installing the ai1ec the events that I have added throw a 404 error when viewed from the calendar. If I switch permalinks to “plain.” the event links work, but the the calendar landing page throws a 404 error. What’s going on here?
