News page not picking up the index theme

    The news page is not picking up the Index template on the latest version of WP.

    In order to replicate the news page – https://andersnoren.se/themes/poe/news/

    I have

    1). Created a new page called ‘news’
    2). Selected this news page in settings > reading > posts page

    But the page displays the homepage

    The category theme page displays fine.

    I’ve had three wordpress freelancers attempt this.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @currentb2b,

    This should be fixed if you update to version 0.3 and have the Settings → Reading settings you’ve described above. Let me know.

    Anders,

    Theme has been updated but still not working as I’m sure you intended.

    This is a completely new/fresh install with zero plugins and hosted by WPEngine.

    Hi @currentb2b,

    That’s odd – I can’t replicate that on either my local installation or the demo site, which are both running the latest version of WordPress and 0.3 of Poe.

    Can you check that you don’t have a custom “Home” template set on Appearance → Editor → WordPress logo → Templates? Also, if you have the Gutenberg plugin active, try deactivating it just in case.

    Yes, it appears I did when trying to change the homepage.

    I’ve now created a new page using the default template and this has now made the news page work.

    However can I now not edit the homepage to make it my own?

    Hi Anders,

    I am not sure if this is related to the index issue above, but when I update to Version 0.3 of the theme, all my homepage content is affected. I believe something in Version 0.3 breaks the FSE and blocks? A rollback to 0.2.6 solves the issue.

    Hi @nicholasyeo,

    Yes, this update will require some content changes, since the home.html template had to be changed to front-page.html to fix the blog index being unavailable in the theme.

    If you go to Appearance → Editor → WordPress logo in top left → Templates, do you have ”Home” listed? If so, your old front page should be saved there, and you can copy over its content to the new ”Front Page” template listed in the same view.
