Hi, I have just come to check my newsletters and can only see one that was set up some time ago (2 years+) The latest newsletters (including one that has already been sent) are nowhere to be seen. The only thing that I found different when I arrived at Mailpoet in the WP dashboard was that my API key needed updating which I did successfully.

Please can you tell me how to retrieve these?

I have purged the cache as suggested in your help articles, logged out and back in but they still do not show.

I hope I can get these back as they were all pre-prepared for an email campaign that is to start soon.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Andy S

  • Hi there @ascoandy,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Newsletters are stored in your site’s database (wp_mailpoet_newsletters table) so if they’re still there, you will see them in MailPoet > Emails. I recommend checking the Trash tab as well.

If you still can’t find them and if you have any backups of your site, you can check if any of them contain your emails. You can reach out to your hosting company to double-check this.

    Hope it helps!

    Hi,

    Thanks for this information.

I have been to my hosts file manager but can not see wp_mailpoet_newsletters table

Where should I be looking for this? Is it in a particular folder (i.e in wp_content)

    Regards

Also where would I find the Trash folder that you recommend I check?

    Hi there @ascoandy,

I have been to my hosts file manager but can not see wp_mailpoet_newsletters table

Where should I be looking for this? Is it in a particular folder (i.e in wp_content)

It’s not in a folder or anywhere you’d view using the File Manager. Rather it’s a table in the site’s database. Your hosting may have database access via cPanel or their own special dashboard, or you can use a plugin like WP phpMyAdmin to access the database.

Once you have access to the database, you’d be looking for the wp_mailpoet_newsletters table — the wp might be different if your site’s database prefix is different:

Also where would I find the Trash folder that you recommend I check?

This was referring to the Trash tab / status in your email list under MailPoet > Emails — if some data in your database got corrupted and all the emails were trashed, then that could explain why you are not seeing them in the main list, so it would be worth checking there as well:

If they aren’t in that database table though, then restoring from a backup of the site would be the only way to get those newsletters back, as they are saved only in your site’s database (we don’t have copies on our servers/systems).

Let us know how that goes, or if you have any questions!

    Hi,

    Thanks for your help.

I managed to find the old newsletters in an Updraft Plus database backup that was stored remotely.

Not really sure why they disappeared in the first place but thankful to have them back!

Hi, I want to reopen this thread as my newsletters have disappeared again. I am concerned that there is an update (either Mailpoet or otherwise) that is losing the newsletters.

Are you aware of any issues such as this?

In teh meantime I am restoring the newsletters as previously mentioned from Updraft Plus backups

Just an update for anyone experiencing the same issue-

I found that a staging copy of my website that contained only one newsletter was overwriting the main website newsletters and leaving just the one from staging available.

I have since corrected this and all is working ok now.

A word of warning for anyone using a staging site with Mailpoet (and other plug ins I guess) – overwriting the main site with your staging copy can also lose your subscription API key. It is wise to filter the files that are overwritten from whichever source you are using

    Hi there @ascoandy,

Great sleuthing here! I’m glad to hear that you managed to correct your existing backup workflow so that your MailPoet data is not overridden.

Also, thank you for taking time to share your finding with us too!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I have the same issue + the new newsletter button creates an error and does break the site completely. It comes back after a while, though.

Above the email table I see this error message:?Error while executing a request, the server replied with the code 403

I have checked the database and the old newsletters are still there, but do not show in the newsletter table.

I have also tried restoring a backup as far back as May, which did not resolve the issue.

    System
    MailPoet 4.15.0
    Server OSLinux (or compatible)
    WordPress version
    6.2.2
    PHP version
    8.1.14

    Hi,

Are you using a staging site to check your website changes before publishing?

I found that my staging site only contained one newsletter whereas my main site contained all the newsletters. When I updated any changes from the staging site to the main site it overwrote the main site mailpoet.newsletters database and I always ended up with just the one newsletter.

I solved it by restoring the mailpoet.newsletters database from an old backup (from ~ 9 months earlier) and then copying all the newsletters into the staging site. I then made sure that I was creating them in the staging site and uploading to main when I was happy with them.

It does seem that you may be having different issues though because you report error messages which I did not receive.

I hope you find a solution.

    Regards – Andy
