Next and previous links in single product page that follows sort order

My client requested to have next and previous products in single product pages. I used previous_post_link() and next_post_link() to accomplish this. However the links only follow the default post publication date in linking the next and previous products. If the catalog is sorted by price, for example, the next and previous links do not follow the same order. Is there any way to make the previous and next links reflect the catalog order?
