NextCellent -> NextGEN

    I’m not completely sure how these two plugins are linked to each other or not, please correct me if I have misunderstood it.

    I have “NextCellent Gallery Version 1.9.35” today and i’m trying to migrate to
    “WordPress Gallery Plugin – NextGEN Gallery 3.17”

    NextCellent is disabled and when I install NextGEN I get this error message.
    “Folder already exists. /customers/3/d/c/mydomain.se/httpd.www/secret/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

    Is it possible to install NextGEN over NextCellent? If so, how do I do that?
    And how to migrate all galleries?

    Hi @mostman,

    We haven’t tested to see how these 2 would work if both being activated but we’d assume that you shouldn’t be using both at the same time.

    NextCellent authors are mentioning that their plugin provides backward compatibility for older NextGEN until version 1.9.13 ( and we have moved a lot since then reaching 3.17 version now ). Also, NextCellent wasn’t updated for 4 years already which points to the fact that this product isn’t anymore compatible with the latest versions of WordPress or the latest versions of the other plugins.

    You can deactivate NextCellent and work with NextGen only. This would imply re-creating the galleries with NextGen from scratch as we don’t have an importer that’d allow to convert the galleries that were created using third party solutions.

    Oki, thanks for the information.
    I did some tests and concluded that I needed to uninstall
    NextCellent before installning NextGEN. All galleries is then of course gone. Then I can manually recreate all galleries by choosing existing picture folder and scan the folder.

    Yup – that should work but kindly note that NextGen doesn’t recognize the other gallery plugin’s structure and respectively it’ll import all of the resized duplicates of the images and it will consider those as separate images instead of importing let’s say the full-size images only.
