I am using the Twenty-fourteen theme with WP ver. 4.6.1 and Nextgen gallery 2.1.56. Since updating to Nextgen 2.1.56, I am unable to add a new gallery or edit existing galleries to pages or posts. I get the following debug message:

Fatal error: Cannot unset string offsets in /hermes/bosnaweb17a/b2183/ipw.aohvirgi/public_html/aohvirginiaWP/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_gallery_display/package.module.nextgen_gallery_display.php on line 1575

Hey @pshea1128 – really sorry to hear about the error ?? Would you mind, confirming for us that error persists after:

– Deactivate all plugins (including NextGEN Gallery) > clear browser cache > re-activate NextGEN Gallery only & reload your site

Do any of those action steps help? I know this can be a big inconvenience, we’re very sorry – but since this is not happening for everyone, this does help tell us if there is a plugin conflict. Thanks!

Hi Becky,

Thank you for your response. I tried the steps you listed above and still have the same issue. I tried switching themes to 2015 and the same error persists.

I have the same problem! Same message when adding a new gallery to an existing post. Astonishingly there are some other galleries in the same post, and they work fine. So problem only ocurrs with new galleries. Link to the post is: https://ekukhanyeni.de/blog/2016/09/27/bauarbeiten-fuer-die-neue-tagesstaette-beginnen/
I am using Generate Press theme. All plugins and theme are up-to-date. And I tried switching themes and turning off plugins – didn’t work.
Thanks

My existing galleries on the same post work fine also. However, if I try to edit an existing gallery, I get the error.

When trying to Add Gallery to Visual or Text editor, nothing happens after clicking “Insert Displayed Gallery”

I have the same problem. If try to edit existing gallery – nothing happens. However, if I add a new gallery to the same page with same images – it works and manageable.

I have spent 2 nights trying to figure it out. Turned all plugins off and on – nothing. Finally, I have decided to compare side by side (in text mode) existing gallery to a similar newly added. The only difference is ID=”####” which appears only in edited galleries – theres none in newly added. If ID=”####” deleted – gallery finally works.

example:
[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”64″ exclusions=”602,603,604,605,606,607,608,609,610,611,612,613,614,615,616,620,621,622,623,624,625,626,627,628,630″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_pro_mosaic” row_height=”180″ margins=”5″ last_row=”hide” lazy_load_enable=”1″ lazy_load_initial=”35″ lazy_load_batch=”15″ ngg_proofing_display=”0″ captions_enabled=”1″ captions_display_sharing=”1″ captions_display_title=”1″ captions_display_description=”0″ captions_animation=”slideup” ID=”2825″ order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

If ID=”2825″ deleted – everything works. Beats me. I hope this info is useful and the annoying bug will be fixed.

Thanks eugenius for the tip! It didn’t work exactly the same way for me. But it made me try to add the new gallery in text mode instead of visual. This worked fine, and in my case there was no ID=xxx added. So I didn’t have to delete anything.

This is the new gallery:

[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”23″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails” override_thumbnail_settings=”0″ thumbnail_width=”120″ thumbnail_height=”90″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”50″ number_of_columns=”0″ ajax_pagination=”0″ show_all_in_lightbox=”0″ use_imagebrowser_effect=”0″ show_slideshow_link=”0″ slideshow_link_text=”Als Slideshow anzeigen (Flash)” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

This is one of the old galleries on the same post:

So, doing it this way adds a completely different code, but works fine – at least for me.
I hope this is useful for others.

Sorry, wanted to add the code, not the gallery itself ??

Thanks eugenius aand tjosche. Adding the gallery in the text editor works for me as well. That bit of information should make debugging easier for the Nexgen developers.

@pshea1128 et al. – We are looking into why some sites are experiencing problem with adding new galleries via the visual tab of the TinyMCE editor and not with the text tab. We hope to have this completely resolved with the next release of NextGEN Gallery.

In the meantime, and we appreciate the inconveniences, we suggest only using the text tab when inserting or modifying posts or pages which have or will have galleries added or modified.

Thanks!

Hello,

I’m having the same problem inserting a gallery into an existing page. A month ago it worked doing it as you mentioned above: inserting the code in the text editor and the text included an ID, for example this one: img src=”https://villaabbatis.com/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–512″.

The thing is that now I no longer know how to get the ID for the new gallery I want to insert. And the ID is not the number Nextgen gives in the “Manage galleries” tab – gallery no 1, no 2 etc.

So, my question is, how do I find out the ID for the gallery, to insert in the code?
Thank you!
