Nextgen Gallery and Image id shouldn’t change if gallery/image replaced

Hi,

I am using Nextgen Gallery to manage images for a wordpress site. The client wants to be able to easily update images and/or galleries on the site. I am using shortcodes to display images on various pages and in various locations on those pages. If the client deletes an image, and then uploads a replacement image the image id changes. But the image id is hardcoded into the page templates, meaning either the client has to understand the code to make the change, or I have to go in and make the change. Is there a good solution for this situation?
