I have installed NextGen Gallery plugin and it is working and so now next I tried to alter the thumbnail popup effect. According to options page,

‘Please note that only the Shutter and Thickbox effect will automatic added to your theme’

The thumbnail effect for ‘Shutter’ works, however ‘Thickbox’ effect does not work, it just opens the image.

My preferred effect is with ‘Highslide’. So following the Alex Rabe FAQ #3 below, I installed Highslide JS plugin.

    3. I didn’t get the Highslide or Lightbox effect working…

NextGEN Gallery supports only Shutter and Thickbox as full integrated effect. All other effects are possible but you need to add them manually. You can use other plugins to add the effect.
Highslide JS plugin or Lightbox JS Plugin

    What are the next steps?

› Next-Gen is working, I have a gallery post working, with default Shutter effect working.
    › WP-Highslide is activated.
› Do I need to add Highslide code or ‘Link Code line’ anywhere to complete the process?

    Thanks for your help.

The HTML code may be useful, it is here

Since then, I had an idea it may be a theme or plugin clash.

I deactivated wp-weather, WPtouch iPhone Theme, Add From Server, Google Analyticator, Google XML Sitemaps, etc..

    Still no go.

I changed from my current theme (based on bluepigment-10), to ‘ShinRa House Blu 1.1’ or ‘WordPress Default 1.6’ and Thickbox worked on both.

But still not Highslide, so there must be something I’m missing.

Do I need to also install the main Highslide JS?

In case anyone else finds this, I made the plugin work with the Highslide Effect by installing Highslide + Flickr from Pim Linders.

This also gives you a range of different gallery options to utilise.
