Nextgen Gallery Pro is extremely slow

  • Is there a way to speed up Nextgen Gallery? With just a few very small galleries (less then 10 pictures) Nextgen Gallery uses far too many resources, slowing down the site by over 2 seconds on each request according to the p3 plugin performance profiler.

    I understand that WPML also eats a noticable amount of resources, but this posting is only about the excessive amounts of resources that Nextgen uses.

    I bought the Pro version, both entries “Gallery” and “Nextgen Gallery Pro” are actually Nextgen Gallery, you can’t disable Gallery, because then Next Gallery Pro won’t work.

    WordPress and Nextgen Gallery are up to date. MySQL and PHP fulfill the requirements mentioned in the “READ THIS BEFORE…” posting. The hosting is done by ONE.COM. The theme is Soul Medic.

    After some small optimisations (disabling Woocomerce, enabling page caching in Wordfence solving the wpml resource usage) the site loads faster but now Nextgen Gallery Pro uses more then 50% of all resources:
