Nextgen Gallery Pro is extremely slow
-
Is there a way to speed up Nextgen Gallery? With just a few very small galleries (less then 10 pictures) Nextgen Gallery uses far too many resources, slowing down the site by over 2 seconds on each request according to the p3 plugin performance profiler.
I understand that WPML also eats a noticable amount of resources, but this posting is only about the excessive amounts of resources that Nextgen uses.

WordPress and Nextgen Gallery are up to date. MySQL and PHP fulfill the requirements mentioned in the “READ THIS BEFORE…” posting. The hosting is done by ONE.COM. The theme is Soul Medic.
