We are experiencing the same problem with Nextgen Gallery (3.2.18), NGG custom fields (1.2.4) and Polylang (2.6.5). The second language home page has screwed up captions under the images. The issue started around a month ago, either because we added a tile or due a recent plugin update(s). We have no albums, just two galleries.

The English side of our website has the problem; the Dutch side of the website is ok (Polylang language flag is used to switch from Dutch to English and vice versa).
Interesting is that when we move the English (in our case the second defined Polylang language) webpage content to a test page (test.html) in the Dutch page tree, the incorrect behaviour disappears. Simplyfing the ngg command string on the indexEN.html page does not resolve the issue (no sort etc.).

    [ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”9″ exclusions=”” sortorder=”78,102,67,70,75,79,68,80,69,72,82,73,58,71,74″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails” override_thumbnail_settings=”1″ thumbnail_width=”180″ thumbnail_height=”120″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”20″ number_of_columns=”0″ ajax_pagination=”0″ show_all_in_lightbox=”0″ use_imagebrowser_effect=”0″ show_slideshow_link=”0″ slideshow_link_text=”[Diavoorstelling tonen]” template=”/home/museum1q/public_html/wp-content/themes/{{siteid removed}}/gallery-caption.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

    Hi @wombat_jo,

Are you using a modified/code customized version of NextGen Gallery or template for the gallery that you have mentioned since NextGen never had a feature allowing to add custom links to the gallery’s thumbnails? If so, can you please try to temporarily activate a standard NGG gallery template to see if this will change anything?

    Hi @mihaiimagely
I haven’t added any custom links.
I’m not using a modified version
I’m a total amateur, so just using the standard setup.
The problem is when NextGen is used with polylang

You are actually using a custom template for sure from what I see in the shortcode’s parameters since you are loading it from the theme’s folder:

    template=”/home/museum1q/public_html/wp-content/themes/{{siteid removed}}/gallery-caption.php”

please do not mix-up questions to the wrong person!

Yes, we are using a modified version as we want to refer to a link which is part of NGG Custom Fields package.
I will perform such a test tomorrow.

    See: https://www.museumwaalsdorp.nl/en/test/

Second set of tiles is with the standard template (no caption below). Hovering over the tiles shows the wrong information on some of the figures as in the first set: old figure names instead of the captions from the NGG custom field …
RED coloured text states the test case.

    https://www.museumwaalsdorp.nl/nl/test-2/

The SAME English gallery is placed in a Dutch pas in both ways …
Both tile sets show the intended behaviour; the (third) tile set lacks the needed captions by our slightly modified gallery-caption.php template

    Hello @hamelzm,

    Apologies for the confusion.
Indeed I can see the issue there.
Of course, I would like you to test something first (before reporting this back to the developers as a conflict with Polylang). Could you please create a simple gallery display (only one gallery, a testing page with a new shortcode and without the custom fields).
That, of course, to check if we can duplicate the issue.

    Please, keep us posted.
    We are happy to help!

    1. I have created a new Gallery for testing purposes

    2. I downloaded three images to local disk under the name test_* (3 different names).
I have uploaded those into the new gallery.

    3. I have entered a name without the test_ in the gallery
    [screendump – see later]

    4. Created new test pages:
    https://www.museumwaalsdorp.nl/en/test2-2/ ENGLISH
    https://www.museumwaalsdorp.nl/nl/test2/ DUTCH (NL)

    5. I have added the earlier Gallery screen capture as an image on the EN-page!

    The EN page screws up the 3rd image hovering text;
when doing the same on the NL page no problem occurs.

    Hi @hamelzm,
Thank you so much for performing that test.
We’d like to take a closer look at this existing problem with Polylang. We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that? If so, please send us a bug report here: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread and let them know Gaby referred you.

    Thanks!

I do not feel comfortable to switch themes etc as it will screw up our website while not knowing whether I can revert quickly to the current settings.
We do not have a shadow test server.

    Regards

PS just installed the .19 nextgen gallery update; no improvement found

I understand. Can you please create a staging site for us where to replicate the issue and then contact us at https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/ so we could have a look at it?

my colleague was so kind to create a copy site:

    Hi @hamelzm,

    So nice from your colleague.
Now, did you already issue that bug report as we asked?

Please, keep us posted, we are happy to help!

Bug report has been issued again as both WP and your modules have been upgraded to the next level

    Apologies @hamelzm,

Did you include the link to this forum in your bug report?
We weren’t able to find that in our inbox
Do you have a ticket number?

    Many thanks
