We are experiencing the same problem with Nextgen Gallery (3.2.18), NGG custom fields (1.2.4) and Polylang (2.6.5). The second language home page has screwed up captions under the images. The issue started around a month ago, either because we added a tile or due a recent plugin update(s). We have no albums, just two galleries.

The English side of our website has the problem; the Dutch side of the website is ok (Polylang language flag is used to switch from Dutch to English and vice versa).
Interesting is that when we move the English (in our case the second defined Polylang language) webpage content to a test page (test.html) in the Dutch page tree, the incorrect behaviour disappears. Simplyfing the ngg command string on the indexEN.html page does not resolve the issue (no sort etc.).

    [ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”9″ exclusions=”” sortorder=”78,102,67,70,75,79,68,80,69,72,82,73,58,71,74″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails” override_thumbnail_settings=”1″ thumbnail_width=”180″ thumbnail_height=”120″ thumbnail_crop=”1″ images_per_page=”20″ number_of_columns=”0″ ajax_pagination=”0″ show_all_in_lightbox=”0″ use_imagebrowser_effect=”0″ show_slideshow_link=”0″ slideshow_link_text=”[Diavoorstelling tonen]” template=”/home/museum1q/public_html/wp-content/themes/{{siteid removed}}/gallery-caption.php” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

You can contact the author on their own site and, once there, the discussion is between the two of you. However, it is not OK to enter or send site credentials on these forums. We don’t want to encourage others (who are less reputable) to do similar things. It’s a fine line, but one that we need to enforce. Thanks for your cooperation.

Please change your FTP password IMMEDIATELY as it was public for almost 2 hours and has probably been archived by Google.

@mihaiimagely I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us escalating this to the plugins team.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

Steve, sorry, you may have overlooked my reply where I was mentioning that we will need the user to contact us privately in the opened by him ticket so he could provide some sensitive data.

I am surely in knowledge of the forum’s rules neither me or the other Imagely support agents are ever asking for sensitive data to be provided here in the forum for the obvious security reasons.

You’re wrong. If you think this is acceptable then you are risking this plugin remaining in the WordPress repo for your behavior.

@mihaiimagely I can’t put it any clearer than this: Do not ask for access under any circumstances either here or in private again. Anywhere, even on your own site or via email. That is not appropriate ever and a repeat of this could get your account banned from these forums. Users are not your customers and it is important that you understand that.

Please take this warning seriously and refrain from repeating that mistake. If you’re still unclear about this then ask the moderators on the Slack #forums channel.

@imagely Please read the above reply from Steve and my follow up. Educate your support folks so there is not a repeat of this.

This is not a gray area and plugin support folk who disregard this warning risk getting all of their accounts banned from this site.

    Dear Jan,

Confusion was raised by the NO REPLY email copied below …
I understand now that the link in the email is not the ticket… but after NO REPLY, the link (somewhat wrongly) suggests that that is the way to communicate.
Suggest the correct way of communicating in emails like this.

    Hi @hamelzm

Just to let you know that we have found the problem and we already replied to you privately.

Now! for every other user, we’ll advise using only one NextGen Gallery for the same page that you want to translate. There is no need to include two galleries.
Polylang will create the translation strings for your titles, please check under Languages > Strings translations

    (@hamelzm)

    Thanks Gaby!

For those who use two galleries and experience this problem: Polylang creates entries in a translation table. See WordPress left bar, Language plugin (or equivalent in your language), second tab is “translation” (or your language equivalent).
Open that tab. Locate using search the problem text and replace them all. Check the bottom checkbox (clear databse) and use the “Update” bottom.

In the end, the problem was solved.

Next week I will submit an error report to Polylang as unwanted (and far too many) entries are generated when modifying a Gallery caption.
