Since the 2013 NextGEN catastrophe I have to very often deactivate NextGEN for a short time and fix some albums or whatever up with NextCellent. So very often I de-activate NextGEN for a few minutes, check some things in NextCellent and then de-activate NextCellent and re-activate NextGEN again.

    Here is the problem:

Since the last two updates NextGEN and NextCellent “forget” every selection in the options!

After NextGen beeing de-activated for a few minutes and re-activated again everything is lost:
    – Watermark settings
    – choice of lightbox effekt
    – create backup of pictures (yes / no)
    – use slideshow (yes / no)
    – settings of the slideshow
    – thumbnail size
    – even the GALLERY UPLOAD PATH is gone what is an absolute desaster for the folder structure of my FTP server

What can I do to make NextGEN “remember” my selections? Every short de-activation makes the plugin “forget” everything. The often i have to switch between NextGEN and NextCellent, this is devastating for me. Never had this issues before, in the last years NextGEN always “remembered” the selections while beeing de-activated.

@sfrueh – We do not offer support for NextCellent; and, we do not believe it is currently compatible with NextGEN Gallery (even if it has appeared to be in the past).

If switching between these two plugin is causing issues, they may be irreparable at some point, we would not recommend continuing in this fashion.

    Thanks!

    Hello there,

okay I try to avoid NextCellent if possible.

But the problem with NextGEN “forgetting” every selection even is there if we look at NextGEN isolated. If I deactivate NextGEN and re-activate it again (without NextCellent or any other stuff in between) at least most of the selections are gone. I just tried it. At least it kept the upload path this time, but everything else like watermark, lightbox etc. gets lost every time.

I try to not deactivate the plugin at all and hope for the next updates.

similar behavior except that I don’t even need to deactivate / activate to face problems. The settings for a specific gallery are not saved (ajax, number of columns etc). More specifically, gallery->gallery settings values are saved but specific gallery settings cannot be changed. For example, number of columns remains at 5 (regardless of the respective gallery->gallery settings value).

The 5 returns even before I have updated the wp page (modify & save & close settings & open settings) so the new value does not probably even get passed on.

    V 2.1.77

Am I missing something simple here?

@sfrueh – I suspect an outside influence on NextGEN Gallery and its options being saved although there is not enough information here to make much of a suggestion on what to look for. Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!
