Suddenly the NextGEN Slideshow widget that I use in my sidebar is displaying all gallery images as static images, vertically, in the sidebar. I have made no changes to my settings for the slideshow and reviewed them carefully to see if anything had changed. Nothing. I have also not changed anything recently on the site. Everything is up-to-date, I use auto-updater.

However,I can say that this immediately followed the auto-update to the latest version of WP.

I’ve had to take it down because it is a glaring error on the forum page. It’s sad because these are pictures of dogs that are sick or have passed from their sickness.

Is it coincidence that I just paid my yearly fee for NexGEN Plus?

Please, is there anything you can suggest to help?
    Thank you, Matoca

@matoca – Although this does sound like something has changed on your site, especially as it relates to how JavaScripts and/or CSS are used I would suggest looking into those possibilities.

Aslo, as a NextGEN Plus subscriber, you are welcome to send us a support request directly via https://imagely.com/support/ but this is not going to be directly related to NextGEN Plus based on the description of the issue you are seeing.

    Thanks!

I put the widget back up after a day and it did the same thing. But then I noticed after a few minutes the slide show started working ok. What would cause the page load to delay loading the js? Is this some problem with caching?

I understand a little about js, enough to understand that it helps html display behaviors such as do something onclick, or in this case display a single image, wait 5 sec and then change to the next image. Since all images are displaying at the same time in the beginning then it would seem this isn’t a caching problem. But it appears the js is not serving the instructions.

I use NextGEN image compression on my site and further I optimize all images in that gallery for web at 500px before uploading. So unless it is the cumulative file size of the gallery causing a loading problem I would need to know more to troubleshoot this.

@matoca – It does appear you are describing a caching issue especially given the slideshow does eventually work as expected on your site but as to what exactly is happening on your site related to caches and how they may be affecting the load/usage of scripts that is not possible to even really guess at without seeing the issue first hand.

You can look at what caching you do have active, both inside and outside of the WordPress environment as well as any other “optimization” actions that are being applied on your site as well. This may be where the problem is rooted.

    Thanks!
