I have stumbled on this anomaly and thought I would report it, hopefully it can be fixed.

I upload the files using NextGen gallery upload images feature. The images are sized before uploading to 1000px on the long edge. Today I needed to update one file in a gallery and noticed that all the files are about 2-3 times the file size, not pixel dimension but kilobytes. A few sample figures are:
    71KB file became 175KB
    133KB file became 628KB

and so on. Why is this happening and how to prevent it from happening. The uploaded files are still 1000 px on the long edge and display properly, except their names are changed to all lower-case letters and the file size ballooned. I DO NOT have the “Automatically resize images on upload” box checked

    Anybody home? NextGEN? Anyone?

As I wrote as an update note on a related blog post on my site, disabling and enabling the Flash upload seems to have fixed the problem. I am still bothered by the lack of response from the new NextGEN team Photocrati.

    I still have this problem.

I’m sorry to hear that you have the problem, but I am glad that I am not alone.

I forgot to ask if you read my post and an update at the end of it:

The only way I can see this happening is if resize images is selected. Even though I know this doesn’t happen, I just did a test (recorded it as well and it’s uploading now) and the file sizes did not change at all.

I size and sharpen images for presentation before uploading and do not use NG file resize feature. Even if it were checked, since the image dimensions will never be larger than the specified size in the NG settings, it should not be resized. As I said earlier, disabling and enabling Flash upload seemed to have solved my problem. I am not sure if it will not appear again. I wish Alex was handling these questions.

Hi Cemal – Erick from Photocrati here. First, I’m glad you resolved the issue on your side. Second, I just wanted you to know that I see (and hear) your comment about not getting a reply. I just posted a lengthy reply on your blog post above about how we decide when to jump in on any given forum thread.

For now, I’ll just note that if we start seeing many users have this issue, we’d raise it’s priority relative to other issues and development priorities. Given that we’re a small company with limited resources and given the very large number of NextGEN users, we just don’t have a choice but to exercise some triage.

    Regardless, we value the input.

Just wanted to let you know, that I stumbled upon the same issue today. Disabling and enabling the java upload didn’t solve the problem on my end.
