I’ve been trying to solve this issue over the last couple of days, removing the plugin, reinstalling, creating new pages and new galleries…
I’ve now worked out where things go wrong. My site uses polylang with Danish and English. The English version of the gallery is fine (even though the titles are still all in Danish). As soon as I switch so that the gallery is listed as a Danish page, the titles all turn to filenames!
Is this a problem with polylang or the gallery? Any ideas?
Hi @wombat_jo,
I am sorry but we haven’t tested NextGen Gallery plugin to work with Polylang so respectively we wouldn’t be able to tell you for sure whether it is or isn’t compatible.
Can you please provide us with the link of the Danish version of the gallery page?
Thanks
Thanks for having a look
Here is the link to the Danish page: https://smallplanet.dk/da/billedarkiv/
The English and Danish versions are no longer linked, while I’m trying to fix the problem!Best regards
JoHello @wombat_jo
Allow me to explain how our lightbox currently works.
NextGen Gallery photos allow you to include a title and description to each image.
Some clients want to show their titles; some of them want to show their descriptions.
Here is a list of our current Free NextGen Gallery Lightbox Effects and what they use as their main “Caption”– SimpleLightbox: Title.
– Fancybox: Description.
– Shutter: Description.
– Shutter reload: Description.
– Thickbox: Description.
– NextGen Pro Lightbox (Available in NextGen Gallery Pro or Plus only): Both. So! Taking a look at your galleries, it seems that you are currently using “SimpleLightbox” and what we noticed is that you might have two different galleries for each page. So please, if you have some time, check the gallery and titles for the one you want to fix.
I hope that this helps, please, feel free to write us back.
Thanks, I’ll try and play around with that.
But just to be clear: I’m not using the ‘description’ option, only the ‘title’
The problem is that the ‘filename’ is showing instead of the title, and I presume that this should never show?
Do you think that changing the lightbox options can fix this problem – that the filenames are showing?– I haven’t entered any text in the description box.
– The gallery works perfectly in English, only shows filenames when I name it as a Danish page.Hello @wombat_jo
This is perhaps an existing conflict with Polylang.
If you have the time, of course, please consider reporting this back to our developers using this form: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/
We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that?.Note: do not forget to include this forum’s link.
Many thanks!Hi
Sorry, but I’m an amateur at this, would you need to change themes etc on my site?
Shouldn’t I just use a different language switcher, or is it advantageous for you to fix the bug?
Can you recommend a language switcher that you know is compatible with your gallery? Thanks for the help
Hi @wombat_jo
I can recall a report linked with Galleries using filenames instead of titles, but that only happens whenever you are importing from the WordPress Media Library into NextGen.
Ok, let’s double-check everything to be sure.
Go to your Danish page https://smallplanet.dk/da/billedarkiv/
Are you able to edit that page?
What’s, is the NextGen Gallery shortcode?Checking your shortcode
Using the Classic Editor, your shortcode will be available at:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_z1OSMU01CqzHJnxS80j2HmArp4JQFCD/view?usp=sharingUsing Gutenberg, your shortcode will be available at:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZUT_GrVTIwfgtSyyzPNN4zIvbDUqhGSw/view?usp=sharingCheck the ID of that Gallery.
Go to Gallery > Manage Galleries
Is that Gallery (use the id obtain in the shortcode to search for that gallery) using filenames instead of titles? Are you able to edit those titles and save them?As for your question of recommended multilanguage plugins, I know that some clients have used WPML. Here is an article about it: https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/translating-nextgen-gallery-using-wpml/
Please, keep us posted, we are happy to help!
Hi
I’ve tried, but maybe your instructions were a bit ambitious for my skill level!I can recall a report linked with Galleries using filenames instead of titles, but that only happens whenever you are importing from the WordPress Media Library into NextGen.
I HAVE IMPORTED IMAGES FROM THE WORDPRESS LIB, BUT HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT IN THE ENGLISH VERSION, AND SOME OF THE IMAGES SHOWING THE FILE NAMES WERE NOT FROM WP, SO I DONT THINK THAT’S THE PROB.Ok, let’s double-check everything to be sure.
Go to your Danish page https://smallplanet.dk/da/billedarkiv/
Are you able to edit that page?
YEP, CAN EDIT THIS.What’s, is the NextGen Gallery shortcode?
THIS IS WHERE I GOT LOST
I WOULD THINK I AM USING CLASSIC EDITOR
DO I JUST CLICK ON THE LINK?
THEN I GET:
[ngg src=”albums” ids=”1″ display=”pro_grid_album” open_gallery_in_lightbox=”1″]IS THAT RIGHT?

NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN HERE. WHERE DO I SEARCH? TRIED IN THE IMAGES BOX, BUT NO RESULTS THEREIs that Gallery (use the id obtain in the shortcode to search for that gallery) using filenames instead of titles? Are you able to edit those titles and save them?
IN THE MANAGE GALLERIES BIT, YES I CAN EDIT AND SAVE FILE NAMESI COULD SEND YOU A SCREEN DUMP, BUT NOT POSSIBLE HERE…
Hello @wombat_jo
Sorry about all those instructions.
Indeed what you have (checking your shortcode) it’s an Album display.
To check the gallery Id, we need to verify that album in particular.Let’s do the following.
1- Go to Gallery > Manage Albums
Select the album id “1” that’s the one you are using for that particular page.
You will be able to see all the galleries that are linked to that album to your left
Here is a screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wcqd5A1qatb83pbisZZ3xOGPOIoSK6yB/view?usp=sharingWhat we need is the id of the Gallery that you are having troubles with.
I think in this case will be “Billedarkiv”.2- Now you can go to Gallery > Manage Gallery
Search that Gallery id. For this example, I’m going to search for my gallery id #33
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oljxl6SCW5ryTzOJalfLQUUZMBHaYJdU/view?usp=sharing3- While on your gallery, please check if you are able to edit this information. Do not forget to click on “Save changes”.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/154yDI8Q6w348sU9PtovtXetxbhJqrXqE/view?usp=sharingIs your problem solved?
If the problem persists, could you please send some screenshots?
You can share screenshots using very different tools.
For example, I have used Google drive, but there are other tools you can use like dropbox or Pasteboard (https://pasteboard.co)Please, feel free to write us back.
Hi again
I haven’t made any albums, only 2 galleries.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZfR_HIjVFbIyzsQlvqaFo0yc7FRO-elu6uqhTdlnddk/editCan you access this link? I’ve put in screenshots there to show you better, hopefully…
If this doesn’t work, how do you share screenshots in googledrive?Hello @wombat_jo
Thank you so much for your patience while following our instructions.
We need to take some notes and escalate this issue with “polylang” to our developers
We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that?. If so, please report this issue as a bug using this form: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/. Be as specific as possible and let them know Gaby referred you.Note: do not forget to include this forum’s link.
Many thanks!Hello,
We are experiencing the same problem with Nextgen Gallery, NGG custom fields and Polylang. The second language screws up the captions under the home page tiles whatever we do to resolve the problem. The issue started a month ago, either because we added a tile or due a recent plugin update.
No albums, just two galleries.Do you have a (temporary) solution?
