• Is there a way to add images to a gallery from url in NGG? Couldn’t find one.
    As is? Add-on? Hack?

Sorry if I missed the obvious…

    TIA.

  • I’d be surprised if NGG supports images from URL.

IMO, images from URL isn’t a reliable choice anyway. Images can change, be renamed, or be deleted. Also, remote sites might prevent your site from serving up their images.

    Thanks for your input.

Sorry if that was unclear, but I was thinking of UPLOAD image from url; i.e. remote image would get copied to local gallery directory.

I was thinking of UPLOAD image from url

NGG doesn’t appear to have that feature.

Neither does the internal Media Library of WordPress, for that matter. Forgive me if you already know this, but the “Add media file from URL” method of WordPress’ internal Media Library does not actually upload or copy the image to your server. It simply adds an image tag whose source attribute is the image’s URL. (Unless I’m majorly misssing something!)

Thanks for precising this; I didn’t know.

Anyone know of an addon or a hack for this?

@adbl: Are you wanting to include many images from several Web sites into your NextGen galleries? Or just an occasional one or two?

Kind of “many”, i.e. a few dozens at a time. I gave a try to something called “SNIPI” (plugin hooked to a web service), that does work, although all images get uploaded to the same galleryy, then I need to dispatch (+ it comes with an “intrusive” FIrefox toolbar).

    Thanks.

Not to jack anyone’s topic, but there are other reasons to have url’s for images. We’re trying to do the same thing (thus how I found this post) so that we don’t have our application servers actually hosting the images. We have seperate image servers that do that job.

Still looking, but wanted to post that in case jd didn’t think of that.

I’m looking for a way to manage URL images for same reason as scrippsadmin – images located on another server. Easy enough to add a URL image to a post using media, but no simple way of thumb-nailing or arranging into a gallery, slideshow etc. That would be a very handy plugin. Unless there is already something that does that…

    +1

I would love to have that feature! UPLOAD from URL. Stop relying on images located on other servers. You could check a box saying “copy to local library” and select a local library.
