I have been having some issue with ngg recently, the latest is that when I try to go to the “news” page of my website, instead of being greeted by a page showing posts in the news category, I am greeted with a blank page. On inspection the code on the page is this: <!– ngg_resource_manager_marker –> <div style=”display:none”>
    </div>

now, this page doesn’t use any next gen galleries etc so I have absolutely no idea what this is about, or why this plugin insists on invading bits of the site where it doesn’t need to be…

If i’d known how many hours I’d have to waste trying to fix problems that this plugin has caused I wouldn’t have bothered with it, seems like every week there’s a new thing which kills a bit of our website.

shock horror! went back to a previous revision of the plugin and everything works again…
Can you guys please stop releasing updates that really don’t work!
Really getting beyond a joke now

@barireid – Sorry to read you are having issues with your site … a link to it would have probably been very useful, especially to the page you were having problems with.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I am not having issues with my site – I am having (yet again) issues with your plugin.

Why would that code appear on a page where there is no need for the plugin?

This is the only plugin where you have to consider whether updating is going to either, break it’s own functionality or break the whole site, I can’t see how this position is tenable – I am going to look for a different gallery plugin where I might not have to waste hours after updates trying to rectify the problems you introduce

@barireid – We would like to help ensure these issues do not arise but if we are not seeing them in our testing then we have no way to do that.

If our test sites do not present an issue a user finds and we are not able to recreate it, then it becomes quite difficult to make any adjustment to ensure it will be corrected going forward.

As it is, it appears to be related to your site but without further details and information, often found when looking at the problem page/post first-hand we cannot suggest any troubleshooting suggestions.

Our apologies for any inconveniences we may have caused.

    No worries Cais,
I am actively looking for an alternative that might be a bit more stable with the release of updates, and not so time consuming to maintain/fix/downgrade after applying updates.
Others have had the same issue of blank screens with your plugin that sound similar so maybe they will have the time to let you look at their sites to try and fix the problems you have introduced into the updates.
I am hopeful that another plugin can offer the basic functionality I require without the constant worry of needing extensive work every time an update is applied

@barireid – “blank screens” does happen from time to time but we have not found anything specifically pointing to NextGEN Gallery on its own … and to the best of my recollection they have presented differently than how you described your site’s issue(s).

As it is, we hope to see even less of these issues (albeit mostly found after the fact) with some refactoring that has already been committed to our next (major) release of the plugin.

Best of luck finding a plugin that suits your needs more appropriately.

Given the only variable is NextGEN Gallery, it’s obvious to me where the problem lies – it’s happened time and again and NextGEN are always quick to blame it on others… if you update the plugin and it stops functioning or makes the rest of the site stop functioning when nothing else has changed it is clear exactly where the problem lies – if the problem can be rectified by resorting to a previous version of your plugin, again it’s clear where the problem lies…

Everything is is always committed to the “next major release”! we heard that in 2013 when 2.0 broke everything… this next major release is going to have to be something special, good luck with it, you’ll most certainly need it!

blank pages again today, same code on the page!
annoying when a client tells you your website isn’t working!
Why is <!– ngg_resource_manager_marker –> stopping my page loading when there is no nextgen content on the page?!?!?

    Plugin Contributor photocrati

    (@photocrati)

@barireid – I’m really not certain how a HTML comment would cause your page not to load, especially since it is written in the footer of the site.

Are you also saying this was working yesterday but not working today? If that is the case, then what has changed? Are you using some sort of caching mechanism? Were there updates to other active plugins, or your current theme?

    – Cais.

    (@barireid)

I have no idea either – but it’s strange that it seems to involve your plugin every time…
It appeared to be working yesterday after I rolled back to a previous version of the plugin, however after I logged in today and had the note to update added into my wordpress dashboard again and the page is again broken.
there is no other change to any plugins, no updates and no changes to the theme, same as before – I guess i’ll have to try and go back to an even earlier version until we can implement the new gallery plugin and get refunded for this one

    Thread Starter barireid

    (@barireid)

well, completely removing the gallery plugin and installing another version has worked in the short term.
fingers crossed it lasts until i can rid myself of the plugin

    (@barireid)

    spoke to soon! ARGH!

    Thread Starter barireid

    (@barireid)

does anyone know of a way that I could maybe add some code to this specific code to stop any NextGEN code appearing in any part of it?
I don’t require any functionality of this plugin on this page so it’s particularly frustrating that it interferes with the page loading

    Plugin Contributor photocrati

    (@photocrati)

@barireid – The refactor involved in the next release is quite extensive as it applies to not displaying scripts/CSS on pages without NextGEN Gallery displays but so far our testing has shown it to work as expected.

It may not be the immediate solution you are looking for but I believe it could be helpful going forward with newer releases.
