NGINX Security Message – Are There Free Options To Explore

    Hello,

    I’m using WP Hosting on a budget provider who is unable to help me out with setting up the security required since they use NGINX for their WP Hosting. They suggested #1 below.

    It seems like my only choices, if I stay with my current provider, are either 1) switch to shared hosting since it would be on Apache, solving the NGINX problem, or 2) using the $49 extension for Dropbox.

    I don’t intend to sell downloads, but just wanted to get my feet wet with them at first, thus the reluctance to spend money on this right now. Is there any third choice of which I’m not aware?

    Thanks for reaching out!
    There is another option that you could try. Please go to the Downloads > Settings > Misc > File Downloads and change the “Download Method” to “Redirect” but also check the “Symlink File Downloads?” box that will show under it.

    That will basically make a copy of the file when requested in a different location and remove it shortly after. The download links will still be encrypted so the end-user will not see the real file path.

    Thank you for replying and providing an alternate way to protect my files. I implemented your solution and it seems to work just fine, from the end-user perspective, in my testing.
