    Hi,

Ninja Firewall has been running smoothly all year. Today when I logged in to the WP dashboard I was directed to the Ninja FW installation page, as if it was a new installation. Now when I try and re-setup the firewall again I can’t get further than the adding line to the php.ini stage. Each time, whether the code is added automatically or manually, I get an “Error : the firewall is not loaded.” message.

I’ve tried uploading the php.ini and htaccess files from yesterday’s backup, and renaming the .htninja file one level above the root, but nothing results.

Not sure what has happened here?

It get’s stranger. The firewall statistics widget is still showing in the WP dashboard, but when I try and click on the firewall log, I receive the following message: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

    Hi,

Did your host make a PHP upgrade?

    Loaded INI file: /home/xxxxx/public_html/php.ini
    auto_prepend_file: /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/ninjafirewall/lib/firewall.php

This shows that it is loaded but it looks like it is not recursive and does not apply to your subfolders.
If you try this, are you blocked?

Did you try to use a .user.ini file instead of a php.ini file?

The widget error is normal when the firewall is deactivated.

    Hi,

    Many thanks for your suggestions.

The site is running PHP Version 5.4.34, and so any upgrade will have been a minor one only.

The login page is still protected by the Ninja Firewall as per my previous setting (Always on), it is also sending an email alert whenever I login, which is not part of my original settings, but not a problem under the circumstances.

Trying to access the test=hack url results in a 403 forbidden error, but from my error page rather than with Ninja’s info including the Incident ID (I have additional rules in the .htaccess which will have triggered this. So either the Ninja firewall was disabled, or the .htaccess rules in the site’s root were triggered first (is this possible?)).

Your suggestion of trying the .user.ini file was the magic bullet, and the plugin is now fully accessible in the WordPress dashboard. FYI The settings and logs in the File Check, Login protection and Firewall Logs are all still in place, but the other features have returned to the default settings (not a problem to revert).

Thanks again for your support, it is very much appreciated.
