• So I had a shared server on HostGator with a couple or 3 dozen WP installs on it and we moved to a dedicated and our file size is too large to use the cPanel/WHM backup and restore process to move the whole account at once. So I downloaded backups for the Home directory and the MySQL databases, like 40.. it was fun.

So here is the question, I restored the home directory, which was smart, cause doing so deleted my multisite installation that I had already individually migrated a few sites with… and then I restored all 40 of the DBs with their new name on them, the tail name from the new server and the tail from the old one. I was wondering how I tie them, fellows, together now, changing a few name servers and propagating the new DNS didn’t seem to do it, I changed the DB name inside the wp-cofig file, I am sure that there is more I am missing.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Sorry for the slow reply. If you lost your multisite configuration due to overwriting wp-config.php, follow the instructions for Create A Network.

Nah, @bcworkz I lost the multisite because I did the restore on the cPanel from my account on a shared server, I thought it would just add the files to my dedicated but I was working in the wrong accounts cPanel… lol

What I need to do is add the files and DBs to a new multisite installation without being able to log into the sites first, I have all of the site files and MySQL databases so it’s just a matter of migrating them in manually.

So your question is just “Is the data in wp-config.php all there is in tying a WP installation’s files to its respective DB?” ? Yes! ??

The only thing that’s a little dicey is getting DB_HOST correct. It’s often just “localhost” but there are plenty of exceptions.
