I use NinjaFirewall on many of my WordPress websites. I also run weekly backups with BackupBuddy on these same websites. This week I needed to migrate a website to a new server and when I implimentated the migration using BackupBuddy I got 500 Internal Server Error.

Fortunately I still had access to this website and was able to disable NinjaFirewall and remove the code that was in the user.ini and htaccess files and run BackupBuddy again.

However, I now question my backup strategy because in the event I do not have access to the website to disable NF, how would I be able to restore the website?

Wondering if in the backupbuddy.zip file I renamed the NinjaFirewall plugin folder and edited or deleted the htaccess and user.ini files I would be able to restore the website?

Or, is there a setting within NinjaFirewall that will allow me to migrate my backup without getting a 500 Internal Server Error?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Hi,

Maybe you should exclude the PHP INI file (the one that contains the auto_prepend_file directive) from the backup process, if your backup plugin allows you to exclude files?
When restoring the backup, you would need to run NinjaFirewall installer again.

    NinjaFirewall’s FAQ:

Can I migrate my site(s) with NinjaFirewall installed?
In order to migrate your site, you must follow these steps:
Export your NinjaFirewall configuration from the “Firewall Options” menu.
With your FTP client, download its log and cache folder located in /wp-content/nfwlog/.
    Uninstall NinjaFirewall.
    Migrate your site.
    Install NinjaFirewall.
Reimport its configuration from the “Firewall Options” menu.
Upload its /wp-content/nfwlog/ folder to your new site (unless you already copied it during the blog migration).

I am able to exclude files in the backup process and I was able to migrate the website and run NinjaFirewall installer again.

Now going to edit scheduled backups on all the other websites to exclude the PHI INI file.

    Many thanks for your help.
