• Hi,

after using Wordfence for a while and having the firewall enabled it seems like the plugin is causing issues when accessing my “wp-admin” folder.

I am getting an “ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS” error.

However, logging in through wp-login.php or accessing the admin menu via wp-admin/index.php works.

Uninstalling the firewall and/or Wordfence didn’t help.

    What can I do?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello jan_german54,

if Wordfence is deactivated it can not cause your site to break. I would suggest you try disabling all plugins. If your site works at that point, enable one of them at a time until you encounter the one that is causing your issue.

Thank you! I tried that already and it didn’t help either. But messing with Wordfence seemed to change the behavior, so I still think it has something to do with the changes when activating the firewall of Wordfence.

    What else could I do?

Does the Wordfence firewall change something about the servers php.ini or Apache configuration? Sorry if the question is nonsense, I’m not too familiar with those topics ??

    Hello again,
when you activate the Firewall an auto_prepend_file directive is added to .user.ini or .htaccess in the root of your site. This should not be causing the type of issue you are seeing here though. ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS indicates there is some issue with your domain or permalinks or something along those lines.

You can check your servers error logs to see if you can find any clues there. You can also try browsing your site with a browser console open to see if that shows any more obvious issues.
