    Hi!

I’ve successfully set this plugin up on a different site, but it took a little fooling with. I’m not adding it to my website. The Advanced tab will not display. On the last site, once I went out of Debug mode, it appeared. That isn’t helping this time.

It’s a great plugin. Love being able to manually import all Google reviews. Awesome.

    Hi Diane,

There are some instances where the Advanced tab will not show. It needs to be out of Demo mode and there must be some review data from Google (see retrieved data). If there is still an issue here, please can you message me your PHP Version and your WordPress version (if not current).

If there’s a plugin fault I’ll do an update to resolve this in the coming day.

    Thanks,

    Noah

Yes, just checked the code and these 3 criteria must be matched to show the Advanced tab:

    1. 1 or more reviews retrieved from Google
    2. Place ID is set
    3. Demo mode is not set

Points 2 and 3 are required to load any existing data from the web page containing Google Reviews. The first point will see if there are any reviews already existing.

    Hope this makes sense.

With the fooling around with – is this setting your Google API and Place ID or something to do with the plugin’s functionality itself? I would like to make it as straight-forward as possible for all users (with some experience of WordPress and creating websites).

    Thanks,

    Noah

    Hi Diane,

I have tried to replicate the error you mentioned – where the Advanced tag is hidden – but I am unable to break it when the three criteria (see previous reply) are met.

Also, I cannot see any evidence of the plugin’s output in the link you mentioned.

Please can you ensure you have the most recent version of the plugin (just updated a moment ago)?

If it is still not appearing, then drop me an email (wordpress-plugins at designextreme dot com) with your WordPress version and PHP version. Also, any errors or warnings that are appearing will really help resolve this. When I have the information, I’ll see if I can get to the bottom of this for you.

    Thanks,

    Noah

I’ve updated the plugin to highlight the three criteria for the Advanced tab. I hope this helps clarify what is missing here – but the Debug Mode toggle isn’t replicated at my end.

I’ve added a comprehensive list of shortcode parameters to make it a little easier to customise. I didn’t realise how many there were!

Please update to the latest version and let me know if the plugin is working as expected?

    Thanks,

    Noah

    Hi Noah,

Thanks so much for the info! I am getting this error through the plugin Retrieved Data tab and it shows when the Advanced tab does not. I guess I need to look into this:

    {
“error_message” : “You have exceeded your daily request quota for this API. If you did not set a custom daily request quota, verify your project has an active billing account: https://g.co/dev/maps-no-account”,
    “html_attributions” : [],
    “status” : “OVER_QUERY_LIMIT”
    }

If I wait 24 hours, it clears, and if I have the three things you’ve mentioned set correctly, the Advanced tab comes in.

Something that may be helpful to others is to tell them what to do after they paste the reviews into the Advanced tab (or I’ve missed where this is). It took me a while to realize that I needed to select all the review checkboxes and then Import before the reviews would actually came into the website.

Also, when setting up the Google API Key, it took me a while before I figured out that I had to add the Places API to the project and then I could limit the Key to just this API. The IP limitation was much more straight-forward.

I think this is a really nice plugin. The JSON Markup is great and supports the JSON aggregate review markup I’m adding to my customers’ website as I build them. We’ll see how Google processes this all together now. ??

Thanks so much for the help!

    Hi Diane,

    Thanks this is quite helpful!

All accounts without any billing information get a limited number of requests. So if you add your billing information (i.e. with a credit card), your limit will be raised considerably.

This plugin is very light with requests – just one to start and then either hourly or daily. Your allowance should allow around 1,000 requests per day before you are charged anything – this plugin should never go above 30 in a day (unless you reset it over and over…).

Normally the request limit would never be reached even without billing details set. If you’re using the same API elsewhere with another page/script/plugin it may push the requests beyond your allowance.

Once you are in a new/existing project, you can Add a new Place API and restrict to IP for your hosting provider (the one listed in the plugin’s Setup tab). I hope this wasn’t too tricky to setup – it is may be a bit of a barrier to novices.

In recognition of this error message, I’ll be making improvements to the plugin to assist with others in a similar position.

About the Import Process, I will look into making this a little easier once the reviews are listed – to import or not.

Your comments have been really helpful. This is a still quite new plugin and any information on how it is used by others is invaluable.

    Thanks again,

    Noah

    Hi Diane,

I’ve added improvements to the plugin – all based on your feedback.

    All the best,

    Noah
