I just finished setting up Google Publisher and like many others I got the “no articles in this section” message. I’ve tried various fixes from the Google forums including RSS validation. I came across your plugin as a recommendation but unfortunately, the error still persists.

It’s my understanding that these articles should populate pretty quickly and it isn’t something that I have to wait for days to see appear in Publisher Center.

Looking for any feedback or advice.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Aeternal,

Is the link you provided the exact url that you use in the Publisher Center?

I’m testing it at https://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/publish by putting the url into that ‘diagnostics’ section and running it. The results are that the feed has not been fetched and there haven’t been any pings.

It should fetch as soon as you save the settings in the Publisher Center (the blue button in the top right corner). You can also trigger a fetch by hitting that ‘refresh’ link next to the section in the Publisher Center. It should attempt a fetch within minutes,

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, that is the exact URL. I do see this message at the bottom of the page if that is what you’re referring to: <!– last GN Pub feeds fetch (not specifically this feed): has not fetched –>

I’m not sure why it would say not fetched as I have hit the save button as well as the refresh button multiple times (see link). https://freeimage.host/i/pc.y2iohX

I even tested the link in Search Console and the results came back that it’s available to Google. So it shouldn’t be a firewall-related issue.

Right, the note at the bottom of the rss feed saying it hasn’t been fetched indicates whether or not Google has fetched the feed. Sometimes Google tries, but as you mentioned, is blocked by a firewall.

However, by checking on Pubsubhubbub, you can see that Google hasn’t even tried to fetch it.

Why not? Well, the Publisher Center is, lets be nice and call it a finicky beast. It doesn’t always work the way one would expect it to.

I would suggest trying this – go to https://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/publish and enter the url for the feed and hit ‘publish’. It won’t look like anything is happening. But give it a minute and then check the diagnostics on it and see if it was able to fetch the feed.

If it did, then head over to your Publisher Center and see if the feed has updated there. If it did, then it should continue to update each time GN Publisher pings it (when you publish a new article).

If it still isn’t updating there, I’d say the next step is to contact Google News Publisher Support. They have not always been on point with their solutions, but it’s worth a try.

Let me know if any of that helps,

    Hey Chris,
I just wanted to provide you with an update. I did contact the Publishing Center Support Group and they suggested a fix that was implemented but I believed it to be unrelated to the core issue anyhow.

I followed up with them with detailed steps I’ve taken and also have posted those steps in the community if you’re curious: https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/thread/188168625?hl=en

Myself and my server admin have been going over this problem for the past couple of days and at this point can only speculate that it is a problem on Google’s end with our domain.

    Thanks again for your help!

Honestly I think so too. Thanks for posting over on the Google Publisher help forum, I’ll follow up with you over there,

    Chris

Recently I came to know that m Google News feed isn’t working. I wrote a mail to the google news team and I got the revert as below

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Google News team.

We looked into the query. We see that your feed is not built properly as per our guidelines. While investigating the feed, we see that it has no proper <guid isPermaLink> tag in it, also suggesting you fix highlighted recommendations in the feed validator.

For <guid> tag if you are not using the isPermaLink attribute kindly provide the full URL. However, if you are using the <guid isPermaLink> tag, if you set isPermaLink attribute as “false”, then kindly provide the unique identifier for it. If you want to provide a full URL then please select the value isPermaLink as “true”.

We suggest you please visit the Technical Feed Requirements and Feed content guidelines Help Center articles.

    We appreciate your understanding.

If you have further queries about Google News, please consult our Help Center or connect with other publishers in our Google News Help Forum.

I went through all settings on my admin panel but could not conclude how do I fulfil their ‘isPermaLink=true’ criteria. Finally I have added the /atom feed to google news but I am still not sure if that is the correct method.

Can someone please guide resolve this

    @glamsham,

I’m sorry to say this, but the information that support provided to you is incorrect. I’ve been in touch with Google about the answer they gave you.

My suggestion would be to run your feed url through the RSS Validator.

If it either 1) doesn’t validate or 2) validates but has ‘invalid html’ errors, those issues will need to be fixed before the Publisher Center can process your feed,

    Chris
