Is there no author assigned at all now, or is the link just not being displayed in the posts list? What happens if you deactivate Edit Author Slug? Does the post author link reappear? Do you have any caching plugins, or any other form of caching?

The author isn’t being displayed in the posts list or within the editor of the post. When navigating to the slug, I can only see the posts that have the author listed on the posts page. I can see in the database that the post still has the author ID listed on the posts.

Disabling the plugin doesn’t revert this back, even changing the slug to what it was previously doesn’t fix this.

Caching is enabled, we are using W3 total cache.

What happens when you disable W3 Total Cache?

Same result as posted in the above image.

Are you using APC or something similar? What theme/plugins are you using? Are you doing anything with users in your theme’s functions.php?

When you’re in the admin, the user column is based off the user id (something Edit Author Slug doesn’t touch), which you said is still correct in the database. This I can’t explain at the moment. On the front end, I could see how changing the author slug (user_nicename in the database) could potentially cause problems, since WP uses the author slug to determine the user_id from which to pull posts.

Well, we have a whole slew of plugins and honestly too many to list. Although, I believe I have singled out the plugin that this is conflicting with. This plugin is called ‘Co-Authors Plus’ and seeing the nature of the plugin, I could see why there could be problems.

I have disabled it and can see the author showing back up. Anything we can do about this?

And just for the record, we aren’t using APC caching and aren’t touching anything to do with the users in our functions.php.

This actually isn’t the first time I’ve run into a problems with Co-Authors Plus. Unfortunately, I’m not sure the project has a lead developer at the moment. There has been some activity, but it’s been slow going since late-March/early-April of this year.

So, the author that was seeing the issue, was this a Co-Author, or a full-fledged user?
