I am trying to take actions on comments. When I mouse over the comment no action buttons appear. Furthermore. there is no pending tab in the comments sections. The tabs I do have are “All, Mine, Approved, Spam, and Trash.”

I am not sure what is going on?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You’ll need to be an Editor or Administrator to manage Pending comments.

Can you confirm that you are, or are supposed to be, one of those roles?

Also, are you the site’s Administrator?

Thanks for the quick response James. My role is administrator (just checked). I am one of 3 people in that role for our website. The other 2 are also Keymasters, but I am not.

Hmmm, can the Keymasters edit pending comments?

Also, is the site using any role modifier plugins?

It sounds like it’s a multi site installation, correct? If that’s the case does that also happen across all the sites or just one?

If not, when did that first appear or first notice that? After an update?

I don’t think we are a multisite / I may not know what you mean. We are in the final stages of the website, and getting it ready for the public. I have been tasked with a bit of site protection, so I am trying to test the comments section (bug spam foul language ETC). In doing so I have found I cannot trash comments. This Bug could be new, or there from the start of the site.
The Site is to function as a database for cards in a board games. We don’t have may post or blogs. We have a ton of ‘card pages’ and ways to search them up. Hopefully that is helpful.
    Thanks all!

Ah ok. Disregard that. I, for some reason, thought it was a site network/multi-site installation. Those have super admin which is where my brain went when reading keymaster which is not the same thing.

Was there a recent update done to a plugin?

Are you able to search all plugins using the command line? Quick thing you might be able to do is see if there is a plugin that is potentially adding the current_user_can() or filtering that somehow with user_has_cap. Could maybe run something like:

    grep -nr 'current_user_can' wp-content/plugins
    grep -nr 'user_has_cap' wp-content/plugins

If a plugin is using either one of those it will be listed with the path and line number of the file it is on.

Sigh, Ok so you are suggesting I search though the code looking for the above problematic lines right? ‘grep -nr’ is that a search command? I have a rudimentary knowledge of coding, and it is not something I have played around with in word press. I am not even sure how to get to the code interface.

You could deactivate all plugins to see if that gets things back to working as well, if you haven’t already tried that.

Victory! (I should have known, just unplug it and plug it in again, of course). I did try this, but only with what I expected the culprits to be. I went ahead and unplugged everything and added them back in one by one.

Reply Box (which I don’t think we intended to install) was the problem.

TY for the suggest and ty all for the help!

    Nice!

Glad to hear it was a simple fix like that.
