    Hi there

I have All In One WP Security installed on two websites.

Up until the middle of April 2021, I was getting weekly bakcup emails from All In One WP Security. Since then, I haven’t received any backup emails for either site.

    I haven’t changed any settings.

Can anyone advise why this would be please?

    Many thanks

    Bev

Hi Bev, has anything changed in your site or server? For example: Did your host update your server? Did you install or update some of your plugins and/or theme?

    Hi there

    Thank you for your reply.

I have contacted my host but they haven’t made any changes to the sites.

Both sites utilise multiple plugins that are updated regularly. Both sites also use the Explore theme and this was updated recently on both sites as well.

    Many thanks

Hi Bev, I am wondering if one of the updates has caused this issue in your site. Also check to make sure you emails are not landing in your spam box.

    Hi there

I have checked in the spam/junk box multiple times – nothing there.

I’m not too sure how an update of another plugin and/or the WordPress theme would affect the receipt of emails from the All In One WP Security plugin?

Could you please expand on this and let me know what I should be looking for to investigate this possibility further.

    Thanks

    Hi Bev,

I’m not too sure how an update of another plugin and/or the WordPress theme would affect the receipt of emails from the All In One WP Security plugin?

The problem with your issue is that it used to work and all of a sudden it stopped working. So we need to carry out a process of elimination to try and work out why your emails are not sent anymore.

Can you tell me what settings did you set up in the following feature Automated Scheduled Backups?

    Thank you

    Hi there

On both sites, I have checked “Enable Automated Scheduled Backups” once a week and to keep 4 backup files along with checking ‘Send Backup File via email’ and inserting the relevant email address.

    Thanks

    Hi Bev,

Have you tried creating a manual backup for testing purposes? What is the size of your backup?

    Thank you

    Hi there

Yes,if I do a manual backup, it works fine and the backup file is sent to the appropriate email address. The back up for each site is just under 10 MB.

    Thanks

    Hi Bev,

Let me explain to you how the scheduled backup feature works with WordPress wp-cron functionality.

The backup time is set at the time you save the automatic scheduled backup settings. In order for the backup to trigger around the time you expect it to, you will need some kind of site activity (such as someone visiting) just after that time.

For example: I’ve configured my scheduled backup settings to do a once daily backup. I saved the config now and it is currently 7:11pm at my location. Then the wp-cron job will be scheduled to perform a backup at around 7:11pm everyday. What this means is that the next backup will be scheduled for tomorrow at approximately 7:11pm. However, if nobody visits my site till 10:30pm tomorrow, then no backup will occur at 7:11pm because there was no activity on the site just after 7:11pm to trigger the wp-cron event. What will happen is that the system will immediately trigger a backup as soon as someone visits my site anytime after the scheduled time. (In other words in this example the backup will occur at 10:30pm)

On the next day the same thing applies. The aiowps backup is still scheduled for around 7:11pm and if I get my next visitor at 7:12pm then the backup will be performed at 7:12pm.

Let me know if the above makes sense to you.

    Hi again

    Yes, I understand that.

I’ve reset my auto-backup settings on both sites, taken notice of times etc. and will visit both sites at the appropriate time and see if that triggers a backup.

    Thanks

    Bev
